Sania Mirza, Shoaib Malik Granted Golden Visa by UAE Government


The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has granted Indian tennis ace Sania Mirza and her husband and Pakistan cricket star Shoaib Malik the much-coveted 10-year UAE Golden Visa. Mirza, 34, who hails from Hyderabad, and Malik, 39, a native of Sialkot in Pakistan, got married in 2010 and have been residents of Dubai for the past several years. The much-loved sports couple has a three-year-old son named Izhaan.

The Golden Visa was instituted by the UAE government in 2019 as a new system for long-term residence visas. It enabled foreigners to live, work and study in the country without the need of a national sponsor and with 100 per cent ownership of their business on the UAE mainland. These visas are for a period of five or 10 years and are renewed automatically.

The UAE Cabinet Resolution No. 56 of Organisation of Residence Permits allows investors (minimum of AED 10 million) entrepreneurs and professional and specialised talents like in the field of science and knowledge to apply for it.

The scope of the Golden Visa was recently widened to include bright students and for 100,000 coders last week under the National Programme for Coders.

On Thursday, Mirza and Malik issued a brief press release that said: “Both Sania and Shoaib are excited to spend time in the UAE with their son and explore the country. They are keen on launching their own entrepreneurial venture in the sports industry starting with Dubai.”

Other sportspersons who have been granted the Golden Visa include footballers Christiano Ronaldo and Luis Figo and reigning tennis world No. 1 Novak Djokovic. From the entertainment industry, Bollywood stars Shah Rukh Khan and Sanjay Dutt have received this visa.

Mirza, who has one WTA singles title to her credit, has made her mark as an ace doubles player, having won 42 titles, including six Grand Slams. Malik is a former Pakistan cricket captain who has played 35 Tests and 287 ODIs for his country.

FC Barcelona is on the verge of agreeing a deal with Lionel Messi for the Argentinean to remain at the club for a further five years, reports the Spanish media.

Messi is currently out of contract after his last deal with the club expired on June 30th, with talks over a new deal dragging on, reports Xinhua.

The main problem with the negotiations was finding a formula that would keep Messi at the club while ensuring his wages would not breach wage ceiling requirements imposed on Barca by La Liga.

That conundrum looks now to have been solved with Messi agreeing to a new five-year contract, with a wage cut of around 50 percent on his previous deal. The player has reportedly accepted a net income reported to be in the region of 20 million euros (about 23.7 million US dollars) a year, plus a bonus for agreeing to put pen to paper.

The length of the contract is surprising given that Messi is 34 years old, but there is also the chance the contract will include a clause allowing him to leave Barca after a further two or three years.

Barcelona president Joan Laporta will view the agreement as an important personal success after replacing Josep Maria Bartomeu as the head of the club in March, promising to keep Messi at the club after the Argentinean had publicly said he wanted to leave last summer.

Messi is currently on holiday after leading Argentina to victory in the recent Copa America, but the media speculate the new contract will be made public before the end of the week.

Actor Jacqueline Fernandez, along with her YOLO Foundation, has been working round-the-clock to offer help to the ones in need in the COVID-19 pandemic. The actor recently shared pictures of her feeding stray animals that might have been abandoned due to the lockdown norms.  Taking to her Instagram handle, Jacqueline said, “Big shout out and thank you to @droolsindia for donating food and joining me and my team @jf.yolofoundation to feed thousands of stray animals around the country. Team @jf.yolofoundation and myself have been actively volunteering at animal shelters around Mumbai to understand the plight of strays animals everywhere and it has truly been heartbreaking.”

“I want to thank and appreciate all those who come forth and work towards making a difference to their lives #bekind @thefelinefoundation @wsdindia,” she added. Recently, the actor also donated face masks and safety shields to Mumbai Police, and Pune Police. 

Jacqueline had set up the ‘You Only Live Once’ foundation in collaboration with several NGOs that cater to the different needs in society amid the pandemic.

Recently the actress revealed the first look poster from her forthcoming horror comedy film “Bhoot Police”. Jacqueline plays a character named Kanika. “Laaton ke Bhoot baaton se nahi maante! Meet the fabulous KANIKA in #BhootPolice. Coming soon on @disneyplushotstarvip,” she wrote as caption.

New Delhi: Facebook-owned messaging and calling application WhatsApp blocked at least two million Indian accounts during the one month period, from May 15-June 15. The company made the revelation in its maiden monthly compliance report as mandated by the IT rules. The new IT rules require large digital platforms, with over five million users, to publish compliance reports every month, mentioning the details of complaints received and action taken.

The company clarified that of the total accounts blocked by it, over 95 per cent of accounts were banned due to unauthorised use of automated or bulk messaging (spam). “Our top focus is preventing accounts from sending harmful or unwanted messages at scale. We expect to publish subsequent editions of the report 30-45 days after the reporting period to allow sufficient time for data collection and validation,” WhatsApp said in the report.

The company added that the number of accounts banned has risen significantly since 2019 due to the tightening of curbs. About eight million accounts get banned by the company globally on an average per month. 

WhatsApp said besides behavioural signals from accounts, it relies on available ‘unencrypted information’ including user reports, profile photos, group photos and descriptions as well as advanced AI tools and resources to detect and prevent abuse on its platform. In the report, WhatsApp said it had received 345 reports in total, cutting across categories such as ban appeal, account support, product support, safety issues and others.

Majority of users who reach out to WhatsApp are either aiming to have their account restored following an action to ban them or reaching out for product or account support, it added.

‘Accounts Actioned’ denotes reports where WhatsApp took remedial action based on the report. Taking action denotes either banning an account or a previously banned account being restored as a result of the complaint.

The IT rules — which came into effect on May 26 — mandate that significant digital platforms include the number of specific communication links or parts of information they proactively remove by using automated tools.

दिलचस्प बात यह है कि मुख्यमंत्री के मीडिया सलाहकार रवीन ठुकराल ने देर शाम ट्वीट कर उन खबरों का खंडन किया कि मुख्यमंत्री ने इस्तीफे की पेशकश की थी। ठुकराल ने इन खबरों को ‘हंबग’ बताते हुए ट्वीट किया कि पार्टी 2022 के चुनावों में अमरिंदर सिंह के नेतृत्व में उतरेगी। विडंबना यह है कि किसी भी राष्ट्रीय मीडिया ने मुख्यमंत्री के इस्तीफे के बारे में कुछ भी नहीं बताया और मुख्यमंत्री कार्यालय से इनकार करने से कई लोगों को आश्चर्य हुआ।

Drone spotted at Jammu’s Samba district, security agencies an alert


Jammu: Close on the heels of the drone attack on Jammu air base, another drone was spotted on Thursday night at Hiranagar sector of Samba district in Jammu and Kashmir.

A local resident spotted the drone at around 8.45pm and notified the security agencies who are on high alert. .

Meanwhile, in another incident a drone was spotted the Air Force Station (AIF) in Jammu in the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday, ANI reported. However details of the incident have not been confirmed. 

A week after the drone attack at Jammu’s Air Force base, the Srinagar administration had banned the sale, possession and use of drones and other unmanned aerial vehicles in the city. 

On June 27, a drone attack at Jammu Air Force station had injured two Indian Air Force personnel. As per investigators, the attackers used a cocktail of RDX and nitrate in the IEDs, which were used to carry out the blast using the two drones.  

The National Investigation Agency is currently investigating case. It has been suspected that the drones came from across the border.

Since the attack in June, the Border Security Force (BSF) and Central Industry Security Force (CISF) have been tasked with procuring anti-drone systems for the nearly 3,500 km-long International Border and also for civilian airports.

Earlier today, the Ministry of Civil Aviation issued draft rules to ensure ease of using drones in India on the basis of “trust, self-certification and non-intrusive monitoring”. The Drone Rules, 2021, once notified, will replace the UAS Rules, 2021, which came into force on March 12 this year.
