Share trader in Navi Mumbai duped of Rs 38 lakh by ‘millionaire’ – Times of India

NAVI MUMBAI: A 36-year-old share trader, residing in Kamothe, was duped of Rs 38 lakh by a fraudster posing as a millionaire.
The fraudster befriended him through a common friend and offered to sell him a Korean-made videography camera worth Rs 65 lakh at a discounted price of Rs 38 lakh.
As per the complaint by Sachin Gunjal on September 8, the Panvel city police have registered an FIR of cheating against the accused Prabodh Bhosale (40).
Nitin Thakre, senior inspector of Panvel city, said, “The accused Bhosale is absconding, and a manhunt has been launched. Once detained, as per the law, he will be served a notice under the Code of Criminal Procedure, since the IPC 420 section invoked attracts a punishment of less than seven years.”
On September 6, around 6pm, the complainant Gunjal’s friend Ritesh Mangoli (35), who has invested in the stock market through him, introduced him to accused Bhosale at Sai World City residential complex, Panvel. Bhosale had told Mangoli that he was a millionaire due to the shipping cargo business. Mangoli told Gunjal to invest Bhosale’s money in the stock market. Gunjal and Bhosale exchanged their mobile numbers.
At 8.30pm, Bhosale called Gunjal’s mobile and asked him how much profit he could get if he invested in the stock market. Gunjal assured him a 4 percent profit. Bhosale told him the profit in the stock market was very low and offered Gunjal a huge profit by selling shipped gold, diamonds, mobiles, and other products at a discounted price.
Gunjal told him that his wife was a news channel anchor and he wanted to buy a videography camera for her. Bhosale offered to sell a Rs 65 lakh worth videography camera of Korean make at a discounted price of Rs 38 lakhs. Gunjal accepted the offer and arranged Rs 40 lakhs from his two friends.
The next day, Bhosale took Gunjal to a 4th-floor apartment in Sai World City, Panvel, where he introduced him to a woman, whom he claimed was his wife. Gunjal gave the cash to the woman, while Bhosale, under the pretext of bringing the camera from his 10th-floor apartment, gave a slip, and even the woman locked the flat.
Later, Gunjal called Bhosale and, canceling the deal, demanded the return of his cash. Bhosale told him to come to Aishwarya hotel in sector 20, Kamothe. Gunjal sent his wife there, but he was not found.
Hence, Gunjal dialed 100 and called the police to the complex. Hence, Bhosale called the security guard’s mobile and told Gunjal to leave from the society, and he would settle the matter at Kamothe police station. When cops inquired with the woman at the apartment, she claimed Bhosale was her husband’s brother and gave evasive replies.
Gunjal met assistant police inspector Lokhande at Kamothe police station, who in turn contacted Bhosale on his mobile and told him to come to the police station for his inquiry. Bhosale said that he was in Nashik and was heading towards Punjab. Hence, API Lokhande took Gunjal’s complaint and registered an FIR of cheating against Bhosale.
