Man Accused Of Pushing Girlfriend Off 15th Floor Tank Seeks Discharge In Case | Mumbai News – Times of India

MUMBAI: In jail for 10 months on charges of attempted murder for allegedly pushing his girlfriend off the water tank of a Dahisar high-rise, 26-year-old student Amey Darekar moved the sessions court seeking discharge and claimed that the whole story was a figment of the victim’s father’s imagination. Iterating that the victim fell from the water tank after being drunk, Darekar also pointed out to her statement in which the severely injured 24-year-old woman, Priyangi Singh, had told the police that they had a very good friendship, that he would really take care of and that she doesn’t feel he could have pushed her down.
“Thus the statement of the victim exonerates the applicant [Darekar] . The statement has been video-recorded…. Moreover, upon perusal of the video…it can be seen that the first informant, Munish Singh [woman’s father[ and his wife were creating undue pressure for deposing falsely against the applicant,” the plea said.
Darekar moved sessions court seeking discharge through advocates Akash Kavade and Siddharth Jagushte on Tuesday. The court directed the prosecution to file its reply and posted the matter for next month.
Singh, a BPO staffer, from Malad was allegedly pushed off the 18-ft-high water tank on the 15th floor of La Belleza building, Dahisar (east), early on November 13. Brought to her Malad home later in the morning by the mother of the accused, Singh underwent a six-hour spinal surgery in which she got 14 screw implants. Cops had alleged that a fight broke out between the couple after they had a drink.
Darekar had first taken the woman to his Borivli home and then his mother dropped her to her Malad home and left her with the domestic help. His mother, Radhika, was named in the case, but was not chargesheeted. The FIR was registered at the behest of Singh’s father Munish Singh.
In his plea, Darekar said that after the woman fell, he took her home to administer first aid. He said his mother and he wanted to take her to the doctor, but she insisted on being dropped home as she had consumed alcohol and was not feeling well. “Thus, upon insistence of the victim, the co-accused [Radhika] was left with no choice but to drop her at her residence, where the co-accused waited for a while in order to meet victim’s parents, however, since they did not turn up, she left,” the plea said. The woman’s parents were out for a morning walk.
The plea said that while the prosecution had alleged that there was a fight between the couple, their friend who was there with them until 4am did not even whisper about any such quarrel in his police statement. Darekar said that he had no intention to murder the victim. He said that he has been arrayed as an accused merely because of the animosity between the victim’s father and him.
