CSK vs PBKS: Yuzvendra Chahal 3rd man to take multiple hat-tricks in IPL history

India and Punjab Kings’ wrist-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal picked up his second hat-trick in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL) on Wednesday, April 30. Chahal achieved the feat against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in match 49 of the IPL 2025 at MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai. The PBKS spinner picked up four wickets in his third over, triggering a massive collapse for CSK.

Deepak Hooda, Anshul Kamboj and Noor Ahmed were the three batters falling prey to Chahal as he etched his name in history books. He finished with figures of 4/32 in three overs as CSK got all out for 190 in 19.2 overs. Chahal came on to bowl the 19^th over of the innings as captain Shreyas Iyer brought him on against MS Dhoni.

The wrist-spinner started the over with a wide and was later smashed for a six on the first legal delivery by MS Dhoni. However, he immediately came back by dismissing the CSK skipper, getting him out caught at long off. Following his dismissal, Deepak Hooda walked to the crease and got off the mark with a couple of runs on the third ball of the over.

However, his stay at the crease lasted only two balls, as he ended up slicing the ball to Priyansh Arya at point. Anshul Kamboj became Chahal’s next victim as he was left bamboozled by the wrist spinner and lost his stumps. Noor Ahmed walked in to face the last ball of the over and ended up skying Chahal towards long on, where Marco Jansen took an easy catch to help him complete the hat trick.

As a result, Chahal became just the third player in IPL history to take more than one hat-trick. He joined Amit Mishra (3) and Yuvraj Singh in the elite list. After achieving the landmark, Chahal also brought out his trademark celebration from a viral meme.
