At Parliament Panel Meet, Rahul Raises National Security Issues Related to Pak, China, Afghan


Congress leader Rahul Gandhi raised the issue of national security vis–vis Pakistan, the standoff with China and the Taliban capturing fresh territories in Afghanistan at a parliamentary panel meeting Wednesday and demanded a discussion on them, sources said. However, he left the meeting of Parliamentary Standing Committee on Defence minutes before it concluded as chairman and BJP leader Jual Oram denied a discussion on these issues saying they were not part of the pre-decided agenda, the sources said.

The committee met here to ‘Review the Working of Cantonment Boards. Gandhi stressed that rather than discussing the working of board, the panel should deliberate on more relevant and important security issues like the standoff with China in eastern Ladakh and the terror threats from Pakistan, the sources said.

Gandhi also raised the issues of the Taliban capturing fresh territories in Afghanistan, China’s growing influence in Sri Lanka and the impact of these developments on India, the sources said. He said these issues are also more serious and need an urgent discussion in the parliamentary panel.

Responding to Gandhi’s demand, chairman Oram said the meeting’s agenda is on the working of Cantonment Boards so the discussion should be limited to that only. If any member wants a discussion on other subjects, he should follow the procedure and to give prior notice of 14 days, Oram said, according to the sources.

The panel chairman noted that neither Gandhi nor any other Congress member was present in the previous meeting in which the committee’s agenda for the year was decided, otherwise their issues would had been taken up, they said. After putting forward his case, Gandhi left the 90-minutes long meeting just before its conclusion, the sources said.

Other members of the panel raised several questions related to the functioning of the cantonment board to the officials from Defence Ministry and armed forces who deposed before the committee, the sources said.

भारत सरकार सूचना अनुरोधों का सबसे बड़ा स्रोत: ट्विटर पारदर्शिता रिपोर्ट


माइक्रोब्लॉगिंग प्लेटफॉर्म ने बुधवार को कहा कि जुलाई-दिसंबर 2020 की अवधि में ट्विटर द्वारा प्राप्त खाते की जानकारी के लिए सरकारी अनुरोधों के मामले में भारत सबसे बड़ा स्रोत था, जो वैश्विक मात्रा का 25 प्रतिशत था। ट्विटर की नई पारदर्शिता रिपोर्ट के अनुसार, जापान के बाद सामग्री हटाने की कानूनी मांगों की संख्या में भी देश दूसरे स्थान पर है।

ट्विटर एक द्विवार्षिक रिपोर्ट लाता है जहां वह विभिन्न उल्लंघनों और नियमों के उल्लंघन के लिए कार्रवाई की गई सरकारी और कानूनी अनुरोधों, हटाने के अनुरोधों और खातों के आसपास के डेटा पर विवरण साझा करता है। अपने नवीनतम ब्लॉग में, ट्विटर ने कहा कि उसने जुलाई-दिसंबर 2020 की अवधि में सरकारों द्वारा वैश्विक सूचना अनुरोधों के 30 प्रतिशत के जवाब में कुछ या सभी अनुरोधित जानकारी का उत्पादन किया।

कानूनी मांगों की कुल वैश्विक मात्रा का लगभग 94 प्रतिशत केवल पांच देशों (घटते क्रम में) – जापान, भारत, रूस, तुर्की और दक्षिण कोरिया से उत्पन्न हुआ। यूएस-आधारित कंपनी ने कहा कि दुनिया भर के 199 सत्यापित पत्रकारों और समाचार आउटलेट्स के खाते 361 कानूनी मांगों के अधीन थे – पिछली रिपोर्टिंग अवधि के बाद से इन अनुरोधों में 26 प्रतिशत की वृद्धि। यहां यह उल्लेख करना उचित है कि सरकार द्वारा बार-बार याद दिलाने के बावजूद, भारत में आईटी नियमों का पालन करने में विफल रहने पर ट्विटर आलोचनाओं के घेरे में आ गया था। ट्विटर – जिसके भारत में अनुमानित 1.75 करोड़ उपयोगकर्ता हैं – ने देश में एक मध्यस्थ के रूप में अपनी कानूनी ढाल खो दी, अपने उपयोगकर्ताओं द्वारा पोस्ट की गई किसी भी गैरकानूनी सामग्री के लिए उत्तरदायी हो गया।

ट्विटर ने हाल ही में एक मुख्य अनुपालन अधिकारी नामित करने के कुछ दिनों बाद एक रेजिडेंट शिकायत अधिकारी नियुक्त किया, और नए आईटी नियमों का पालन करने के लिए रविवार को अपनी पहली भारत पारदर्शिता रिपोर्ट भी जारी की। बुधवार को अपने ब्लॉग में, ट्विटर ने कहा कि जुलाई-दिसंबर 2020 से वैश्विक स्तर पर सभी ट्वीट्स के लिए उल्लंघन करने वाले ट्वीट्स पर इंप्रेशन की संख्या 0.1 प्रतिशत से भी कम थी। इंप्रेशन मीट्रिक हटाए जाने से पहले प्राप्त एक उल्लंघनकारी ट्वीट को देखे जाने की संख्या को कैप्चर करता है। इस दौरान, ट्विटर ने अपने नियमों का उल्लंघन करने वाले 3.8 मिलियन ट्वीट्स को हटा दिया। इनमें से लगभग 77 प्रतिशत को हटाने से पहले 100 से कम इंप्रेशन प्राप्त हुए थे, 17 प्रतिशत को 100 और 1,000 के बीच इंप्रेशन प्राप्त हुए थे और 6 प्रतिशत हटाए गए ट्वीट्स में 1,000 से अधिक इंप्रेशन थे। ट्विटर ने कहा, “हमारा लक्ष्य समय के साथ इन नंबरों में सुधार करना है, उल्लंघन करने वाली सामग्री को देखने से पहले ही उस पर प्रवर्तन कार्रवाई करना है।”

Sri Lanka coach Mickey Arthur knows very well that no Indian team can be taken lightly even if they don’t have the big names in their squad for the upcoming series starting July 18.

Eyebrows in Sri Lanka were raised when former skipper Arjuna Ranatunga slammed the country’s cricket board and the Indian team for sending a second-string side to Colombo for the upcoming 6 white-ball games. Ranatunga has since been subjected to criticism from all quarters.

India will be led by Shikhar Dhawan and coached by Rahul Dravid on the tour in the absence of Virat Kohli and Ravi Shastri, who are in the United Kingdom with the Test squad preparing for next month’s series against England.

But Arthur knows very well that even the players who have come to Sri Lanka are capable of beating his team in 50-over and T20 cricket.

“We are under no illusion because we know this is a wonderful Indian team. The Indian team is amazing, they have got so many good cricketers – it is like an IPL All Stars XI.

“They are an incredible bunch of players, and for us, it is very much about giving game time to young players, looking at possible combinations going forward,” Arthur told Sportstar before admitting that he actually feels a bit jealous of the “stocks at India’s disposal” even when the big names are not available.

“They are incredibly talented and I often feel that they are Galacticos (laughs). They rock in and have a lot of IPL experience and they all hit the ball hell of a long, long way.

“Indian cricket is in a strong position and that’s because of the structure they have put in place way back and also because of the talent they have.

“These guys are wonderful players and I am often awed by the talents that are available for the selectors, Ravi Shastri or a Rahul Dravid. I can’t help but get a bit jealous at the stocks they have at their disposal,” Arthur said.

Sri Lanka will host India in a series of 3 ODIs and 3 T20 internationals from July 18.

The series was supposed to begin from July 13 but had to be pushed back by 5 days after two Sri Lanka’s batting coach Grant Flower and video analyst GT Niroshan tested positive for Covid-19, forcing the entire squad to go into isolation for a longer period than expected.

Exclusive: Kerala Governor Arif Mohammed Khan asks youth to stop using degree for dowry, end atrocities against women


New Delhi: Days after a series of dowry deaths rocked Kerala and kicked up a heated debate on the menace, Governor Arif Mohammed Khan on Wednesday observed a fast to create social awareness against the social evil and end atrocities against women. It may be for the first time in the history of the southern state that any Governor was fasting for such a social cause.

Khan began the fast at Raj Bhavan, his official residence here, by 8 am, urging people to say a big no to the decades-old evil practice. The Governor also attended a prayer meeting organised at the Gandhi Bhavan here later in the evening. 

Zee News anchor Aditi Tyagi spoke exclusively to the Kerala Governor after he concluded his fast today by garlanding the statue of Mahatma Gandhi at Gandhi Bhavan.

Speaking about the increasing dowry deaths and incidents in the state, Governor Arif Mohammed Khan appealed the public to speak up and starting saying no to the decade-old evil practice and end all atrocities against women. “Our beloved state of Kerala was recently in the news for a tragic death due to dowry. It is said that the spectre of dowry continues to raise its ugly head in our state which has been globally acclaimed for enviable social indicators like literacy and life expectancy.”

“It is a matter of great concern that a 22-year-old ended her life at her house on July 12. I visited her residence and appealed to all NGOs to create social awareness in this regard,” the Governor added. 

“Kerala is known for its literacy rate, health sector and social work. Such incidents, where a young girl ended her life as she was being tortured and harassed at her in-laws place over dowry, is a matter of concern,” he said. 

Khan said that the one-day fast, which he observed against the dowry cases in Kerala, was called by a few senior Gandhians, adding that it was an honour for him to participate for such a great cause. 

Speaking about the literacy rate in Kerala, the state is the most literate state in the country with a 96.2 per cent rate. The male literacy rate is 96 per cent compared to 92 per cent among females in the state, as per the latest data. 

The Governor highlighted that people should not use their education or qualifications to seek dowry. He also urged the younger population to come forward to boldly say no to a marriage that involves dowry. 

Speaking to Aditi Tyagi, Governor Khan said that he would be writing to Vice-Chancellors in the state that students should be made to sign an undertaking before handing over the degree that they would not demand or participate in dowry culture, considered one of the deep-rooted social evils.

The Rajasthan government on Wednesday announced an increase in the dearness allowance of state government employees and pensioners from 17 per cent to 28 per cent. The decision will be applicable July 1 onward.

Earlier in the day,  the Central government increased the rate of Dearness Allowance (DA) and Dearness Relief (DR) after a gap of one-and-half years from 17 per cent to 28 per cent, benefiting nearly 1.14 crore employees and pensioners. The decision on the DA and DR was taken at the Union Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur said that the new rates of DA and DR will impose an annual burden of Rs 34,401 crore on the exchequer, will come into effect from July 2021.

In a tweet this evening, Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot said, “We have decided to increase dearness allowance of Rajasthan state govt employees and pensioners from 17% to 28%. This will come into effect July 1, 2021, onward. Despite the difficult times due to Covid, state government will spend Rs 4,000 crore annually to support the employees,” he wrote. 

 

Earlier, the Union Government had frozen the three additional instalments of the DA and DR which were due from January 1, 2020, July 1, 2020 and January 1, 2021. The government said that there will be no payment of arrears this time, as the rate of DA/DR for the period from January 1, 2020 to June 30, 2021 shall remain at 17 per cent of basic pay/pension. The enhanced rate of DA and DR will be paid from July 2021.

On the work front, Alia has recently signed a contract with one of the leading international talent management agencies, William Morris Agency (WME). The actor, who was last seen in ‘Sadak 2’, will next feature in ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’, directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, which is expected to arrive in theatres later this year. She will also be seen in the forthcoming movie ‘Brahmastra’ alongside rumoured beau Ranbir Kapoor. The movie is directed by Ayan Mukerji and also stars Amitabh Bachchan, Nagarjuna, and Mouni Roy.

केंद्रीय खेल मंत्री अनुराग ठाकुर ने बुधवार को भारत के टोक्यो ओलंपिक जाने वाले एथलीटों को समर्पित आधिकारिक जयकार गीत लॉन्च किया। गाने को मशहूर एआर रहमान और यंग सिंगर अनन्या बिड़ला ने बनाया है।

खेल मंत्री अनुराग ठाकुर ने बुधवार को देश के ओलंपिक दल के ‘चीयर4इंडिया’ गीत को लॉन्च किया और जनता से टोक्यो खेलों के दौरान अपने एथलीटों के साथ पूरे दिल से रैली करने का आग्रह किया।

ग्रैमी पुरस्कार विजेता संगीतकार एआर रहमान और युवा गायिका अनन्या बिड़ला ने टोक्यो ओलंपिक के लिए भारतीय दल के आधिकारिक गीत को पेश करने के लिए सहयोग किया, जिसका शीर्षक चीयर4इंडिया: हिंदुस्तानी वे है।

ठाकुर ने कहा, “मैं अपने सभी देशवासियों से गाने को सुनने, साथी नागरिकों को इसे साझा करने और टोक्यो ओलंपिक के लिए पूरे भारतीय दल को यह दिखाने के लिए उत्साहित करता हूं कि हम उनके पीछे हैं।”

उन्होंने कोविड -19 महामारी के ऐसे कठिन समय में गीत की रचना के लिए रहमान और अनन्या को धन्यवाद दिया। भारतीय ओलंपिक संघ के अध्यक्ष नरिंदर बत्रा ने कहा कि टीम इंडियन के आधिकारिक जयकार गीत का शुभारंभ पिछले 18 महीनों में सभी हितधारकों द्वारा की गई कड़ी मेहनत की परिणति है।

इस अवसर पर एमओएस (खेल) निसिथ प्रमाणिक, खेल सचिव रवि मित्तल, भारतीय खेल प्राधिकरण के महानिदेशक संदीप प्रधान और आईओए महासचिव राजीव मेहता भी उपस्थित थे।

असम के निर्दलीय विधायक अखिल गोगोई ने बुधवार को सत्तारूढ़ भाजपा और विपक्षी कांग्रेस द्वारा एक सवाल का जवाब सार्वजनिक करने के लिए आलोचना की, जो उन्होंने विधायकों को एजेंडा प्रसारित किए जाने से पहले ही उठाया था। सुबह 9.30 बजे कार्यवाही शुरू होने से पहले विधानसभा के बाहर इंतजार कर रहे इलेक्ट्रॉनिक मीडिया को संबोधित करते हुए, गोगोई ने उनके साथ असम-अरुणाचल प्रदेश सीमा पर गेरुकामुख में सुबनसिरी लोअर हाइड्रो इलेक्ट्रिक प्रोजेक्ट से संबंधित एक तारांकित प्रश्न का उत्तर साझा किया।

सरकार के सवालों के जवाब संबंधित विधायक को सदस्यों के बीच दिनों के कारोबार को सूचीबद्ध करने वाले आदेश पत्र से एक रात पहले उपलब्ध कराए जाते हैं। सदन की कार्यवाही शुरू होते ही भाजपा विधायक मनब डेका ने इस मामले की ओर अध्यक्ष विश्वजीत दैमारी का ध्यान आकर्षित किया।

इससे सत्ताधारी दल के सभी विधायकों ने गोगोई को फटकार लगाई और स्पीकर ने घोषणा की कि प्रश्नकाल के दौरान उठाए गए प्रश्नों के उत्तर अब रात को उपलब्ध नहीं कराए जाएंगे। गोगोई को यह कहते हुए सुना गया, “क्या केवल भाजपा विधायक ही विधानसभा में बोलेंगे? क्या यह विपक्षी विधायकों के लिए सदन नहीं है?” प्रश्नकाल समाप्त होने के बाद, डेका ने फिर से इस मुद्दे को उठाया और शिवसागर विधायक के खिलाफ विशेषाधिकार प्रस्ताव की मांग की, जिससे शोरगुल हो गया।
