Manchester United suffers another injury blow as Aaron Wan-Bissaka ruled out for several weeks

Aaron Wan-Bissaka is set to miss several weeks of action for Manchester United due to a hamstring injury. The England international was a surprise absentee from the starting lineup in the match against Brighton & Hove Albion on September 18th, 2023, only coming off the bench in the final five minutes.

It was during these closing stages that he sustained his injury. Wan-Bissaka’s injury adds to the growing list of setbacks Manchester United has faced in the early weeks of the new campaign, particularly in defense. Other players who have suffered injuries include Luke Shaw, Raphael Varane and Tyrell Malacia. New signings Mason Mount and Sofyan Amrabat have also been unavailable at times due to various issues.

The club confirmed Wan-Bissaka’s injury, stating that he will be sidelined for a period, although the exact duration is yet to be determined.

“Aaron Wan-Bissaka is set for a period on the sidelines after sustaining an injury during the closing stages of Saturday’s game against Brighton & Hove Albion.”

“The right-back came on as an 85th-minute substitute, having started the game on the bench after battling illness during the week.”

“Further assessment will be needed to determine how long Wan-Bissaka will be out for, but initial indications suggest it will be several weeks,” read the statement on United’s official website.

This comes as a blow to the team, which is already grappling with an injury crisis. The situation is further complicated by the fact that other key players like Antony and Jadon Sancho are also unavailable due to non-injury related issues.

Reports in British media state that Wan-Bissaka could be out for atleast two months due to the injury.

Manchester United have lost three of their first five games in the Premier League and are set to travel to Munich to take on Bayern in their first Champions League match of the season.
