WhatsApp to soon roll out feature to create group chat events – Times of India

It was recently revealed that WhatsApp is working on a secret code feature for chat lock. Now a new report has surfaced online revealing that the Meta-owned platform is developing a feature to create group chat events.
As reported by WABetaInfo, WhatsApp is developing a functionality for organising group chat events. With this feature, WhatsApp provides users with a new tool to help them plan and coordinate discussions in group chats, by reducing the risk of missed or late calls. The feature is presently available for Android beta testers and can be accessed in the app’s version 2.23.21.12.
As per the report, users will notice a new action within the chat share menu that includes an events shortcut. With this feature, users can create events with a specific name and choose when they want to be notified in the conversation. This can be especially useful for planning and coordinating various activities within group chats or simply staying organised with personal reminders. It’s important to note that these message events will be end-to-end encrypted.
Once creating an event, it will automatically be added to the conversation, and everyone will have to update WhatsApp to the most recent version to see and accept the new group invite event.
“It will be possible to create an event with all the relevant details like the event name, date, time, and location within a group chat,” adds the report.
WhatsApp support for 18 smartphones ending on October 24
The popular messaging platform has declared its intention to discontinue support for select Android and iPhone devices starting the week ahead. As of October 24, 2023, WhatsApp will no longer be compatible with certain older smartphone models.
“To keep up with the latest advances in technology, we routinely stop supporting older operating systems to point our resources to supporting the latest ones. If we stop supporting your operating system, you’ll be notified and reminded a few times to upgrade your device to continue using WhatsApp. We’ll also update this page regularly to ensure that the latest Android version we support is listed here,” added WhatsApp.
