Ulhasnagar suicide case: No faith in Thane crime branch, says Dhananjay Nanavare who cut finger before camera | Thane News – Times of India

ULHASNAGAR: Satara resident Dhananjay Nanavare — who last week had cut his finger before camera over inaction by police in a double-suicide case — is unhappy with the Maharashtra’s Thane crime branch investigation.

Nanavare has now decided to move the Mumbai high court to demand the case be monitored by an HC judge.
The case pertains to Nanavare’s brother Nandkumar, former PA of (late) former MLA Jyoti Kalani, and sister-in law Ujwala.

The Nanavare family’s decision came after the Ulhasnagar court, on Monday, sent four accused — Kamlesh Nikam, Naresh Gaikwad, Shashikant Sakhe and Ganpat Kamble — in judicial custody after the Thane crime branch team could not make any breakthrough after 10 days of police custody.
At the court when the Thane Crime Branch team demanded three more days of custody of the accused, Arjun Jeswani, the counsel for the accused Nikam, opposed it saying that the court has already given sufficient custody of 10 days to police.
During the hearing, Nanavare family had hired private lawyer Gopal Bhagat to assist the public prosecutor.
Bhagat, later speaking to media persons, said, “It is a failure on the part of investigation team which failed to produce any concrete reason for further remand.”
Bhagat said, “Since the remaining four accused, who are yet to be arrested in case, include a BJP MP and the role of the investigation team is suspicious, the family now has decided to move the high court.”
Nandkumar — who has worked with many politicians in Ulhasnagar and Satara, including former MLA Jyoti Kalani and her husband and ex-MLA Pappu Kalani — had ended life along with his wife on August 1 by jumping from the terrace of their Ulhasnagar bungalow.
Nandkumar, with his wife, had left two videos and two suicide notes in which they had mentioned about harrassment they and their family were facing.
The couple has also named Satara-based BJP MP Ranjeetsingh Nimbalkar in their video as well as suicide note.
However, Nimbalkar later issued a statement denying his involvement.
