Two brothers nabbed from UP 29 years after they killed family of five in Thane district | Thane News – Times of India

NEW DELHI/THANE: Authorities announced the apprehension of two brothers who had evaded capture for 29 years following their involvement in the tragic murder of a woman and her four children in Maharashtra’s Thane district.
The police arrested them in Uttar Pradesh on Monday.
PTI quoted deputy commissioner of police (Crime) Avinash Ambure as reporting that a team from the MBVV police apprehended Anil, also known as Vijay Ramavadh Saroj (48), and his brother Sunil, also known as Sanjay (47), on Saturday in the Kirakat area of Jaunpur district, Uttar Pradesh.
They had been fugitives from justice since 1994 after committing the heinous act of brutally murdering Jagranidevi (27) and her four children, the youngest of whom was just three months.
In December 2022, the police successfully apprehended one of the accused in the case, while the two brothers continued to remain in hiding, as confirmed by the official.
Authorities received intelligence indicating that the Saroj brothers had been disguising themselves as faith healers and were moving through villages in Uttar Pradesh, as reported by the official.
Acting on a tip-off, the crime branch officials devised a plan, creating a decoy scenario where some police personnel posed as individuals in need of healing. They approached the Saroj brothers, who were staying at a temple in Kirakat, and successfully apprehended them on the mentioned Saturday, according to the official’s statement.
During the interrogation, it came to light that the two brothers had resided in Delhi, Haryana, and Punjab, adopting various false identities. They had also been employed in factories during this time. Additionally, they managed to acquire Aadhaar and PAN cards under their new aliases, as per the official’s statement.
In December 2022, the police had successfully apprehended Rajkumar Amarnath Chauhan (41), who had fled to Qatar after committing the crime, as disclosed by the official.
