Premier League: Son Heung-Min brace ears Tottenham Hotspur 2-2 draw vs Arsenal in London derby

In a thrilling North London Derby, Tottenham Hotspur’s captain Son Heung-min stepped up to the plate, scoring twice to secure a 2-2 draw against Arsenal in the Premier League. The match was a rollercoaster of emotions as Tottenham twice rallied from behind to level the score.

The first goal came from an unfortunate own goal by Cristian Romero at the 26-minute mark, giving Arsenal the lead. However, Son quickly equalised with a skillful finish just before halftime, marking a shift in momentum for the visitors.

Romero’s day took another turn for the worse when he conceded a penalty, which was confidently converted by Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka in the 54th minute. Yet, Son proved his mettle once again, capitalising on a blunder by Arsenal substitute Jorginho to bring the score back to a tie.

Both teams had opportunities to clinch the win, with Son narrowly missing a hat-trick and Saka’s shot being saved. Despite ten minutes of stoppage time, neither side could break the deadlock, although Tottenham’s Richarlison came close with a deflected shot.

The draw left both teams undefeated in the league this season, each with 14 points from six games. However, they both slipped down the table, with Tottenham now in fourth place and Arsenal in fifth, separated only by goal difference.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta expressed disappointment at not securing the three points, praising his team’s energy but criticising their lack of composure. On the other hand, Tottenham’s new manager Ange Postecoglou has brought a renewed spirit to the club, and despite the absence of top scorer Harry Kane, who recently transferred to Bayern Munich, Son’s performance ensured that the rivalry ended in a draw.

Son praised his team’s performance, stating it was “perfect”. The match was a testament to his lethal striking abilities, with his two goals taking him to fourth on the all-time list with seven goals in this historic London rivalry.

The match was a nail-biter till the end, with both teams coming close to securing a win. However, the final whistle saw the points shared, marking an exciting chapter in the North London Derby’s history.
