Newly-promoted Premier League side Burnley have completed the signing of Norwegian midfielder Sander Berge from Sheffield United.
Berge has inked a four-year contract with Burnley with the exact financial details surrounding the transfer not yet being disclosed by the club. This strategic acquisition sees Berge become the eighth new presence in the Burnley squad under the tutelage of manager Vincent Kompany.
The signing comes at an opportune time as the team is getting ready to make a comeback in the Premier League. Berge’s addition to the squad is expected to provide a significant boost to Burnley’s midfield arsenal.
Prior to partnering with Sheffield United in 2020, Berge donned the colours of Belgian heavyweights, Racing Genk, showcasing his versatility and deft ball-handling skills at the heart of the pitch. Despite Sheffield United’s initial reluctance to let go of their star player, they finally acceded to Burnley’s persistent offers.
Upon completing his move to Burnley, the 25-year-old said the club is a perfect fit for him and is the exact move that he was looking for. Burnley’s interest in Berge should hardly come as a surprise, given his sterling performance over the last year in Sheffield. His impressive stint at United saw him gain a reputation for his impressive playmaking ability, intimidating physical presence, and stellar defensive skills.
“It’s a great environment full of young talented players from all around the world, so I just think it’s the perfect fit for me. The club has high ambitions, making several signings, and it all just fits into what I’m looking for,” said Berge.
With this strategic signing, Burnley, who had been scouring the market for midfield reinforcements, has secured a significant boost to their midfield line-up. Berge is expected to provide the requisite drive in the midfield and be an integral part of Burnley’s game plan for their much-anticipated return to England’s top football division.
