Nicholas Pooran aims to be consistent after batting heroics vs India in 2nd T20I: Want to enjoy the game

By India Today Sports Desk: Nicholas Pooran was satisfied with his match-winning 67-run knock after West Indies secured a two-wicket win over India in the second T20I in Guyana on Sunday. Notably, Pooran’s explosive fifty countered Indian captain Hardik Pandya’s exceptional performance in the power-play and despite India’s impressive bowling in the final stages, the West Indies managed to secure a hard-fought victory against the Men in Blue during the second T20I of the five-game series in Guyana on Sunday.

The series now stands at 2-0 in favor of West Indies. Having successfully performed and now savouring the satisfaction of achievement, Pooran expressed his initial misjudgments about the game’s progression and conclusion. “Yeah, I want to thank Jesus. I want to perform and be satisfied with this. Honestly, I want to finish the game. But when I got out, I thought it was done and dusted. But it is cricket, anything can happen and we did see the game turning on its head,” Pooran said after winning the Man of the Match award.

Emphasising that his stellar performance wasn’t just merely a ‘purple patch’, Pooran revealed the rigorous hard work and dedication that had gone into getting him where he is today.

“I won’t say this as a purple patch. I have been working hard to get this and it has been going well for me so far. I have seen us losing consistently. I have given away the captaincy as well and now want to enjoy the game. It’s happening to me.

Mentioning that his team was used to playing on such wickets back home in Guyana, he said that as a batsman, one needs to cash in on every opportunity, be it half-volleys, short balls or full tosses.

“I want to enjoy the game and continue entertaining. The score didn’t actually matter to me. It was about batting well and controlling the game. I felt like it was a decent wicket and we are accustomed to getting such wickets here in Guyana. The bowlers are going to give you half-volleys, short balls and full tosses and you need to cash into it,” Pooran added.
