Nanded Hospital Deaths: BJP, Sena (UBT) spar over government hospital deaths in Maharashtra | Mumbai News – Times of India

NEW DELHI\MUMBAI: Chandrashekhar Bawankule, the president of the Maharashtra Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), On Friday, responded strongly to the criticisms made by Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Uddhav Thackeray against the Eknath Shinde government regarding deaths in state-run hospitals.
Bawankule alleged that the former chief minister had not refrained from benefiting financially from the procurement of body bags.
During the Covid-19 pandemic, the BJP had accused the Maha Vikas Aghadi government, led by Thackeray, of purchasing body bags at exorbitant prices and had raised concerns about possible corrupt practices in the procurement process.
On a social media platform (X), Bawankule stated that while patients were tragically losing their lives due to oxygen shortages during the pandemic, Thackeray seemed more preoccupied with the distribution of government tenders.
Bawankule urged Thackeray to reflect on the alleged “corruption” that took place during his tenure as the chief minister of Maharashtra.
He added, “You did not hesitate to profit even from the procurement of body bags for the deceased.”
Members of the Shiv Sena (UBT) leadership are currently facing scrutiny and investigation for suspected irregularities in the procurement processes carried out during the Covid-19 pandemic.
In response to Thackeray’s criticism regarding Eknath Shinde not visiting the families of those who lost their lives in government-run hospitals, Bawankule pointed out that when Thackeray was the chief minister, he operated the government from his residence.
On Friday, Thackeray launched a scathing attack on the Eknath Shinde-led government, blaming it for the rapid increase in patient deaths within certain state-run hospitals.
He alleged that people were losing their lives as a result of what he perceived as corrupt governance within the administration.
During a press conference, Thackeray made further allegations, claiming that there was a significant “outbreak of corruption” within the government.
He also asserted that the government had sufficient funds for advertising purposes but appeared to lack the necessary resources to save people’s lives.
