Mumbai Traffic Restrictions: Police issues Guidelines closes 93 roads in Mumbai for Ganesh visarjan | Mumbai News – Times of India



MUMBAI: Avoid dancing and refrain from using loudspeakers on 13 ‘old and dangerous’ road over-bridges (ROBs) in the city when taking Ganpati idols for immersion on Thursday, Mumbai Traffic Police cautioned revellers

Traffic police have issued guidelines concerning the use of Ghatkopar, Currey Road, Arthur Road or Chinchpokli, Byculla, Marines Lines, Sandhurst Road, French ROB, Kennedy ROB, Falkland ROB (between Grant Road and Charni Road), Belasis at Mumbai Central, Mahalaxmi, Prabhadevi, and Dadar Tilak ROB on Anant Chaturdashi, the last day of Ganpati immersions. According to the rules, no more than 100 people should cross these ROBs at any given time, processions cannot halt there, and there shall be no dancing or playing of loudspeakers.
Traffic police also announced that 93 city roads will be kept shut – 24 in south Mumbai, 32 in the central suburbs, 27 in the eastern suburbs, and 10 in the western suburbs..
“From 10am on Thursday to 6am on Friday, 93 roads will be kept shut, 23 roads will be made one-way, goods vehicles will be banned on 34 roads and parking restrictions will be imposed at 107 places,” said joint commissioner of police (traffic) Pravin Padwal.
Around 11,000 traffic police officers, home guards, traffic wardens, civil defence personnel, NSS and Road Safety Patrol volunteers will be deployed for managing crowds during immersion. Various NGOs will also assist the police, besides volunteers from water safety patrol.
Traffic police have also curbed the movement of heavy vehicles and private buses on south Mumbai roads from 10am on Friday to 6am on Saturday. These vehicles will not be allowed to park on the road, said additional commissioner of police (traffic) M Ramkum-ar. Essential service vehicles, such as ambulances, are exempted from all restrictions.
