Mumbai: Sessions court grants bail to bookie Anil Jaisinghani | Mumbai News – Times of India

MUMBAI: A special trial court on Monday granted bail to accused Anil Jaisinghani, an alleged bookie booked for offences of extortion and under Prevention of Corruption Act earlier this year for allegedly trying to bribe and extort the deputy Chief Minister’s wife.
The Malabar Hill police station in south Mumbai had on February 20 registered a First Information Report (FIR) against Jaisinghani, and his daughter for allegedly threatening to make public, certain audio and video clips concerning Amruta Fadnavis, wife of deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.
The father-daughter dup were booked for offences under Section 120B (criminal conspiracy) and Section 385 (extortion) of the Indian Penal Code and Sections 8 (induce public servant using corrupt means) and 12 (abetment) of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
On Monday, a special court heard Ajay Misar as special public prosecutor for Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) who opposed the bail. For Jaisinghani, Sudip Pasbola argued for bail.
The Judge in his order, allowing the bail plea, noted that the investigating officer Ravi Sardesai was present and directed release of the accused on execution of a personal bond of Rs 50,000. Conditions imposed are that he shall attend the Court each day and shall not threaten or induce any prosecution witnesses. Jaisinghani also has to be surrender his passport before the IO and shall not leave India sans prior permission of the trial court.
Jaisinghani’s daughter Aniksha Jaisinghani, who was arrested on March 17, was granted bail in the case on March 27 by a sessions court. He was arrested later. Earlier in April, Bombay high court had rejected his petition where he claimed his arrest was illegal as procedure was flouted.
But, before the HC, advocate general Birendra Saraf said all procedures were followed and that Jaisinghani was arrested on March 20 at 5 p.m. and was produced before the sessions court on March 21.
