Molestation accused at woman’s door: GRP seek bail cancellation | Mumbai News – Times of India

MUMBAI: After a report in TOI about an alleged molester landing at the doorstep of his victim a year since the crime and demanding that she withdraw her complaint, the government railway police (GRP) have moved court to cancel the bail that was granted to the accused.
The 26-year-old victim posted online on Tuesday that she hoped the culprit would be re-arrested soon.
“I have been updated by the investigating officer from Borivli Railway Police that the court has accepted their letter for cancellation of bail and a notice has been issued. I understand that the culprit will be arrested again now. I hope that happens soon so that we don’t live in fear,” she tweeted on Tuesday.
The molestation case dates back to September 21, 2022. The woman was travelling for work in a first-class ladies’ compartment of a local train when a man touched her inappropriately between Andheri and Jogeshwari stations.
When she approached the Andheri GRP chowky, a police official asked her why she had not beaten up the culprit. Later, a female constable asked whether the accused was her boyfriend.
The FIR registration took three hours.
Three days later, the accused, Biharilal Yadav, was arrested. The then police commissioner, Quaiser Khalid, also instituted an inquiry into the conduct of the Andheri GRP personnel.
Early on Sunday, while the victim and her elderly parents were asleep, Yadav landed up at their doorstep. He appeared intoxicated.
The victim’s mother asked him two to three times how he got the address and each time he said he got it from the police.
He kept yelling her name and created a ruckus, causing residents of the society to gather. To get Yadav to leave, her elderly father had to repeatedly say that they would withdraw the complaint. The victim was so terrified that she stopped stepping out of the house and opted for work-from-home.
The GRP said on Monday that they did not share the victim’s information with Yadav and he may have got it through the chargesheet.
Following the TOI report, the GRP got in touch with the victim on Tuesday and told her that they would explore all legal options to ensure action against Yadav.
(The victim’s identity has not been revealed to protect her privacy as per Supreme Court directives on cases related to sexual assault)
