Microsoft Paint could soon get AI drawing features – Times of India

Microsoft is reportedly looking at ways to bring AI-powered features to Paint in Windows 11, including generating a canvas based on text prompts.
Paint’s AI feature will be backed by the same technology that powers Bing’s Image Creator, sources say, which is OpenAI’s DALL-E 2 model.
The Bing Image Creator is available within Bing and Microsoft’s Edge browser. Users can create both written and visual content in one place, from within chat, using their own words to describe the picture they want to see.
Windows Central has released an internal mockup of what the integration might look like. According to the mockup, there will be a “Magic Paint” button and a sidebar where users can input an image description for it to generate. Then one can transfer the image to their canvas for editing, but how it will work is unclear.
In addition to Paint, Microsoft plans to add AI tools to Photos, the Camera app, and the Snipping Tool. Photos may gain a new feature that allows users to identify people or objects in an image and cut and paste them elsewhere. The Snipping Tool and the Camera app may both receive optical character recognition (OCR) technology, allowing each app to identify text in photos or screenshots, making it easier to copy and paste information.
Lately, Microsoft has been investing heavily in AI, unveiling new AI features across its product line, including Copilot within Windows 11, Edge and other apps. It is currently unclear when Microsoft would introduce this feature but we can expect to hear more at the coming event in September.
Microsoft plans to incorporate AI more deeply into the next major release of Windows, expected in 2024. Currently, the AI capabilities in Windows 11 are somewhat surface-level, but sources tell that the next major release will integrate AI experiences more significantly.
