MUMBAI: Entrepreneur and president of All India Mahila Empowerment Party Nowhera Shaik has welcomed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s announcement that the government of India will create two crore “lakhpati didis” in the villages. In his August 15 address from the ramparts of the historic Red Fort in Delhi, Modi had said that the “government is working with Self-Help Groups (SHGs) with the aim to create two crore lakhpati didis or sisters who have worth lakhs. “We will study the style of functioning of the Self-Help Groups which is helping in creating lakhpati didis. Our party’s aim is to empower women, including women in rural areas and we welcome the PM’s announcement to create women lakhpati,”said Shik. She added that her Heera Group and political party All India Mahila Empowerment Party had already started schemes to empower women. “We are studying how we can partner with the government to implement the dream of our PM Modi sahib. We will do everything which is within our control and we are capable of.” On the occasion of the 77th Independence Day, the PM also underlined the importance of women-led development in the country. Citing an example of how a minister of a country during his recent visit abroad asked whether women in India today study science and technology. Modi replied that girls outnumber boys in pursuing education in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics.” “The PM rightly said our daughters are excelling in education but there remains to do a o lot, especially in rural India. Volunteers from her party and her Heera group, said Shaik had started various schemes and programmes aimed at empowering women. Financial security of women and giving them benefits of education and health programmes was her group’s priority, she said. She added that soon her executives and volunteers will come out with the plan on how to implement the PM’s “lakhpati didis” dream.
