Maharashtra: Spurned man kidnaps woman’s 5-year-old daughter, found holed up in toilet of running train | Mumbai News – Times of India



MUMBAI: After his proposal to marry a woman was rejected, a 35-year-old man kidnapped the woman’s five-year-old daughter to get even with the woman. The police combed three trains and nabbed the accused, who was hiding in a toilet of the running train, and also rescued the girl.
The accused, Riton Ghosh, who hails from West Bengal, has been arrested for kidnapping. Ghosh was known to the child’s family and used to visit them. On September 5 midnight, he allegedly kidnapped the girl from her house. “After the girl’s mother came to Nagpada police station, we began collected information about the accused and the girl. We learnt that the accused could leave for Kolkata. So, our teams went to CSMT and LTT and started searching for the girl and the accused,” said a police official.
“We got information that the accused could have taken Shalimar Express to go to Bengal and our team alerted the government railway police (GRP) at Igatpuri and informed them about the accused,” said DCP Akbar Pathan.
Photos of the girl and the accused were also sent to the GRP as the train was nearing Shegaon, in Buldhana. The GRP searched all bogies of the train and found the accused hiding in a toilet with the girl. His photo and description matched the photo they had. The GRP also found a bedsheet he had taken while kidnapping the girl, the police said.
A police team from Nagpada was sent to Shegaon which took custody of the accused and reunited the girl with her family.
“The accused had one-sided love for the girl’s mother. He offered her to leave her husband and marry him, but when she rejected his proposal, he kidnapped her daughter to teach her a lesson,” said a police officer.
The investigation was carried out by a team led by senior PI Mahesh Thakur, PI Kiran Chaugale, API Somnath Kale, PSIs Ramprasad Chandawade, Vishal Chaudhary and members of the Nagpada police station.
