On Republican Party of India (Athawale) candidate from Kalina Assembly constituency Amarjit Singh, Union Minister Ramdas Athawale says, “We are very happy that BJP, Devendra Fadnavis and central leadership for giving us Kalina seat. Amarjit Singh is a very active leader…we have full confidence that people will make Mahayuti candidate win…”
In a dramatic turn of events, Palghar Shiv Sena MLA Shriniwas Chintaman Vanga – who was denied a ticket this time – cried profusely and apologised to Shiv Sena (UBT) President and ex-Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, calling him a ‘godly’ person, here on Tuesday.
Vanga’s unexpected tearful outburst evoked a sharp reaction from Shiv Sena (UBT) MP and Chief Spokesperson Sanjay Raut who slammed ruling MahaYuti Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on the issue.
“Today, Vanga is weeping… tomorrow even Shinde will cry… It’s all ‘karma’ catching up with them,” observed Raut sharply, without dropping any hints of his party’s likely stance on Vanga.
Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi said that Vanga was one of the 40 traitors who has now realised his mistake “after he was royally used and thrown by Shinde”.
Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aaditya Thackeray on Tuesday said the roadshow by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Pedro Sanchez, President of the Government of Spain, from the Vadodara airport to Tata Aircraft Complex was “like rubbing salt on the wounds of Maharashtra”.
Addressing a news conference, Thackeray said the Tata-Airbus project was to come up in MIHAN in Nagpur, but was “taken” to adjoining Gujarat by the BJP and the state’s Eknath Shinde government.
Modi and Sanchez on Monday inaugurated the Tata Aircraft Complex in Vadodara, a facility which marks India’s first private venture dedicated to the production of military aircraft, specifically the Airbus C295. The inauguration was preceded by a 2.5-km-long roadshow by the two leaders from the airport to the sprawling complex in the Gujarat city.
With the nomination deadline for the Maharashtra assembly elections now closed, it emerges that the BJP and Congress have dropped the maximum number of sitting MLAs among the major political parties.
The Bharatiya Janata Party has opted not to grant tickets to eight MLAs, followed by Congress which replaced five MLAs.
The NCP led by Ajit Pawar and the NCP (Sharadchandra Pawar) have opted to not grant tickets to two incumbent MLAs each.
Notably, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena has repeated almost all MLAs who had sided with Shinde during the rebellion barring one.
Shiv Sena MP Shrikant Shinde says, “On November 23, the entire atmosphere in Worli will be ‘saffron’ and Milind Deora, who is contesting from Worli, will win by a huge margin. Milind Deora has worked for this area as an MP and he is aware of the ground issues, so the people of Worli want a local, not brand…”
Three senior Congress leaders from Pune, including a former mayor and an ex-corporator, have entered the electoral fray as Independent candidates after failing to make it on the list of Maha Vikas Aghadi nominees for the November 20 assembly elections.
These leaders include Ulhas alias Aaba Bagul, a former municipal corporator, ex-mayor Kamal Vyavhare, and Manish Anand.
Bagul filed his nomination papers from the Parvati assembly segment after the seat was allocated to NCP (SP). Vyawhare and Anand submitted their nominations from Kasba Peth and Shivajinagar constituencies, respectively.
Sanjay Upadhaya filed his nomination today for Borivali Constituency as BJP Mahayuti candidate. Union Minister Piyush Goyal, MLAs Sunil Rane, Atul Bhatkhalkar, Manishatai Chowdhary, Yogesh Sagar were also with him.
On NCP fielding Nawab Malik from Mankhurd Shivaji Nagar, Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aaditya Thackeray says, “Eknath Shinde should answer this. He could not meet Dawood’s partner. He could not sit beside anyone who had any connection with Dawood. Then what became of Iqbal Mirchi? What happened to Dawood’s partner?… When he had said all that, he did it only for his own selfishness. He did not want to go to jail, so he switched and ran off to Gujarat.”
In a jolt to the BJP, former Lok Sabha MP Sudhakar Shrangare joined the Congress in Maharashtra’s Latur district on Tuesday ahead of the state assembly election.
In a message on social media, Shrangare said he was committed to public welfare and prioritising Latur’s development.
He said decision to join the Congress was motivated by his faith in the party’s vision for a progressive future.
Shrangare was inducted into the party in the presence of Congress leaders, former ministers Dileeprao Deshmukh and Amit Deshmukh.

Mumbai BJP President Ashish Shelar has clearly said that after giving ticket to Nawab Malik, BJP is clear that it will not campaign for Nawab Malik.
BJP will not promote people associated with Dawood Ibrahim at any cost.
Former Maharashtra minister Nawab Malik on Tuesday filed his nomination papers as NCP candidate from Mankhurd-Shivaji Nagar assembly constituency in Mumbai.
The development came days after city BJP president Ashish Shelar said his party is against Malik’s candidature for the November 20 Maharashtra assembly election.
“We will not accept giving a ticket to someone linked to underworld don Dawood Ibrahim,” Shelar had said. “We won’t support Nawab Malik and will have a different stand,” he had added.
“I had decided to contest as an independent if I did not get AB form from my party. I filed papers at 2.55 pm as NCP candidate,” Malik said after filing his papers.
Tuesday was the last day of filing nominations for the assembly elections.
The Beed assembly seat, once a stronghold of the NCP (undivided), is witnessing fierce competition in the upcoming elections, with four members of former minister Jaydatta Kshirsagar’s family entering the fray.
The seat had been won four times, split between the undivided NCP and Congress, Shiv Sena, alongside victories by the Communist Party of India and the Janata Party.
Four members of the Kshirsagar family in the fray include the Kshirsagar senior, his two nephews- Sandeep and Yogesh, and Sandeep’s wife Neha.
In the 2019 assembly polls, NCP (undivided) candidate Sandeep Kshirsagar narrowly defeated his uncle, Jaydatta Kshirsagar, who contested as a Shiv Sena (undivided) nominee, by 1,984 votes.
This election cycle sees Jaydatta contesting as an independent candidate, while Sandeep, the last MLA loyal to Sharad Pawar during the NCP split, is running under the NCP (SP) banner. His wife, Neha Kshirsagar, is also in the race as an independent.
Additionally, Yogesh Kshirsagar, another nephew of Jaydatta, has entered the contest after initially filing as an Independent. On Monday night, the NCP led by Ajit Pawar officially announced his candidature for the Beed seat.
Archana Patil Chakurkar, daughter-in-law of veteran Congress leader Shivraj Patil Chakurkar, on Tuesday filed her nomination as BJP candidate from Latur city for the Maharashtra assembly elections.
Chakurkar, a prominent member of the Lingayat community here, left the Congress and joined the BJP in March.
Chakurkar, accompanied by prominent Mahayuti leaders, including former union minister Bhagwat Karad, State Minister Sanjay Bansode and Abhimanyu Pawar, among others, filed her nomination.
“Any job opportunities and mega projects have been moved to Gujarat, I have not objected it going to Gujarat but against bais to Maharashtra.. Fadnavis can’t even bring Tata Air Bus Vidarbha, now the people of Nagpur will also not accept Fadnavis… Fadnavis & Shinde have bad eyes towards Mumbai and Maharashtra… no a single investor summit by Mahayuti.. MVA did Magnetic Maharashtra 6000 crs investment,” said Aaditya Thackeray.
Samajwadi Party Maharashtra chief Abu Asim Azmi says, “We are part of Maha Vikas Aghadi. We will continue with them. But a lot of people are indulging in friendly fights, and we too would follow the same…If we have two MLAs from Bhiwandi, it would be a miracle. We want to improve Bhiwandi just like Nashik. We want to develop Bhiwandi. So, we want to win both seats. We urge the public to make us win
Shrinivas Vanga, a Shiv Sena MLA from Palghar, has been missing for the last 15 hours, reportedly after he was denied the ticket from his home constituency for the forthcoming Maharashtra Assembly elections, scheduled for November 20.
Leaving family under stress, the Sena MLA has severed all communications from his phone, said sources familiar with the matter, adding that the police have initiated action to search for the missing leader on his family’s complaint.
Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, contesting assembly polls from Baramati, has movable assets worth more than Rs 8.22 crore, while his immovable assets were valued at Rs 37.15 crore, according to an affidavit submitted by him before the Election Commission.
The movable assets of Ajit Pawar, who heads the ruling Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), include two cars – Toyota Camry, Honda CRV — a tractor, silver articles, FDs, shares and bonds, among others, as per the affidavit submitted by him along with nomination papers from the seat in Pune district for the November 20 polls.
Ajit Pawar (65), seeking an eighth term from his home turf, filed his nomination papers as the NCP candidate on Monday.
Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Rajiv Kumar on Tuesday expressed concerns over politically motivated crimes in Maharashtra and asked its police chief to ensure a strict clampdown on crimes that vitiate the electoral atmosphere, sources said.
The poll watchdog held a review meeting with the chief secretaries, police chiefs and other top officials of Maharashtra, Jharkhand and their neighbouring states to assess the law-and-order situation for the assembly elections.
During the review, CEC Kumar expressed concerns over politically motivated crimes in Maharashtra and asked the state’s director general of police to ensure a strict clampdown on such crimes, the sources said.
The recent killing of NCP leader Baba Siddique in the state has created a political furore.

BJP spokesperson Shaina NC has resigned from her party and filed nomination as the candidate of Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena from the Mumbadevi assembly constituency in Mumbai on Tuesday.
Before submitting her nomination papers, Shaina visited the temple of Mumbai’s patron goddess Mumbadevi to seek blessings for her campaign for the November 20 elections.
Shaina will square off against Congress’ Amin Patel from Mumbadevi, which is a part of Mumbai South Lok Sabha constituency.
“I filed my nomination papers from the Mumbadevi seat. I have resigned from the BJP and joined the Shiv Sena,” she told PTI.
