Maharashtra back at the top in FDI inflow, pips Karnataka & Gujarat | Mumbai News – Times of India

MUMBAI: Maharashtra has again surged ahead of other states to regain the top position in terms of attracting foreign direct investment (FDI) in the country, said chief minister Eknath Shinde while winding up the monsoon session here on Friday.

“Over the past one year, the state has successfully attracted around Rs 1.18 lakh crore foreign direct investment, taking Maharashtra ahead of Karnataka and Gujarat. Moreover, Rs 80,000 crore investments agreed upon in Davos are in the process of implementation,” he said in his speech in the legislative assembly.
Over the years, Maharashtra has been the number one state in FDI inflows, but fell behind Gujarat in 2020-21 and Karnataka in 2021-22.
‘State gives Rs 1.2k-cr subsidy to industry’
Chief minister Eknath Shinde attacked the erstwhile MVA government, alleging the state had lagged behind in investments due to the lack of efforts during their tenure. “Several projects were stuck. Over the past one year, (deputy chief minister Devendra) Fadnavis and I removed all the speed-breakers, thus pushing the state once again on the path of progress,” he said while replying to last week’s motion moved by the opposition.
While targeting MVA, Shinde said it was still under wraps as to how many agreements were made in Davos during its tenure and how many of them were actually implemented. “This government is the one that works 24×7 in the action mode and not like the earlier government that remained live on Facebook and was remotely run from home,” he said.
“It is in the leadership of PM Modi that the country’s economy has come to the fifth position from its earlier 10th. The state is providing around Rs 1,200 crore subsidy to the industry, besides offering Rs 1.25 lakh crore relief to farmers to further strengthen its position.” In the Rs 16.17 lakh crore green hydrogen programme planned for the country, Shinde said Rs 96,000 crore investment would be coming to the state alone. Shinde said the premium for freeholding collector land to redevelop existing housing societies will be reduced to 5% from average of 15% for which a suitable amendment will be made in law.
