Ligue 1: PSG complete signing of striker Goncalo Ramos from SL Benfica

Paris Saint-Germain, the reigning champions of France’s Ligue 1, have announced the signing of Portuguese striker Goncalo Ramos from Benfica. The 22-year-old forward joins PSG on a season-long loan, with an option for the club to make the move permanent at the end of the campaign.

Ramos, who began his career at Benfica’s academy when he was just 12, has made a significant impact since his professional debut in 2020. He has netted 41 goals and provided 16 assists in 106 appearances for the Portuguese champions. His impressive performance at the World Cup last year, where he scored a hat-trick in his first start, helped Portugal reach the quarter-finals and further elevated his status in international football.

During the 2021/22, the Portuguese forward established himself in the first team and made his UEFA Champions League debut, and went on to open his account in the competition in the quarter-final second leg against Liverpool in April 2022.

Upon joining PSG, Ramos expressed his excitement and pride. “PSG is one of the biggest clubs in the world with one of the best squads,” he said. “It is a great pride and an immense happiness to join Paris Saint-Germain.”

Ramos’ arrival at PSG comes amid a flurry of new signings by the French giants. Marco Asensio, Milan Skriniar, Lee Kang-in, Hugo Ekitike, Lucas Hernandez, and Manuel Ugarte have all recently joined the club. These additions follow the dismissal of manager Christophe Galtier in July, who was replaced by former Barcelona and Spain coach Luis Enrique.

In addition to these signings, PSG is reportedly close to finalizing a deal to bring in French forward Ousmane Dembele from Barcelona. With these strategic moves, PSG continues to bolster its squad, aiming to maintain its dominance.
