Kalina residents in Mumbai go without water, unable to find bottled water too | Mumbai News – Times of India

MUMBAI: The water crisis in certain areas of Kalina in Mumbai seems to have deteriorated significantly, as residents in multiple pockets have been enduring a complete lack of water supply for an entire week now.
Distressingly, some residents have reported that individuals, particularly from the slums, have resorted to carrying buckets, giving the impression of a situation more dire than that of a rural village.
Former Congress corporator Tulip Miranda said that residents are not even able to get bottled water for drinking.
“No amount of requests being made to the BMC hydraulic department officials is helping. On one side the lakes supplying water to Mumbai have 90% water in them and on the other residents like us are suffering. In areas like Shastri Nagar in Kalina slum dwellers are unable to even perform their daily chores like bathing and washing,” said Miranda.
Some local residents said that they are having to go to their relatives’ homes to complete their chores like bathing and washing clothes.
Sharon Jacinto, a resident of Kolivery village in Kalina, said, “I have been going to my mother’s home in Vile Parle to wash clothes. When we are paying our taxes and water bills too on time then why such kind of treatment to us? “she said.
Another resident Gibson Rodrigues also from Kalina said that he has registered his complaint with the BMC through all channels whether social media like twitter or through the helpline number 1916.
“But we are yet not receiving any water. The authorities said that they are investigating the complaint but that is clearly not happening as the water situation appears to be going from bad to worse,” said Rodrigues.
Anil Upadhyay, district president BJP north central, said that they have planned to take out a morcha on Tuesday morning at the H east ward office. “There has been no water supply since the last many days in Shastri Nagar, Dongar, Kunchikurve and other adjoining areas of Kalina and we want to convey the frustration of the citizens to the authorities,” he said.
When contacted officials from the hydraulic department said that a valve had malfunctioned at the Hansbugra road leading to a pocket in Kalina not receiving adequate water.
“This issue is resolved. There was another issue relating to the water supply time. We are hoping to resolve this issue too by tomorrow (Tuesday),” said the official.
