IMD forecasts heavy rain in Mumbai, Thane and other parts of Maharashtra for next 3-4 days | Mumbai News – Times of India


MUMBAI: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted ‘heavy to very heavy’ rainfall in the next three-four days in Mumbai, Thane, Palghar and several other parts of Maharashtra.
The IMD on Sunday issued a yellow alert for Mumbai with a forecast of heavy rain at isolated places of the city for the next two days.
Mumbai city has received 82 mm rainfall in the last 24 hours ending 8am on Sunday. The eastern suburbs recorded 47 mm and western suburbs recorded 56 mm of rainfall, as per Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).
The weather department has predicted extremely heavy to very heavy rain till September 15 under an orange alert for Palghar region.
For Thane district, local officials should remain prepared for heavy showers till Wednesday.
Raigad, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, Nasik, Pune, Satara and Kolhapur districts are expected to receive heavy showers at isolated places for the next two days.
The weather department has also issued an yellow alert for Nagpur, Wardha, Bhandara, Gondia, Chandrapur, Gadchiroli, Amravati, Akola, Yavatmal, Buldhana and Washim till September 13.
An orange alert by the IMD means “be prepared to face any situation arising out of severe weather conditions” while the colour yellow signals authorities to “be aware” of the danger.
The meteorological department has advised fishermen to return to coast after warning of heavy to very heavy rain. Fishermen are advised not to venture into North-Maharashtra coast till September 15 and South-Maharashtra coast till September 14.
