Hit streets if Manipur-like incident happens, Sharad Pawar tells NCP’s women wing | Mumbai News – Times of India

MUMBAI: NCP president Sharad Pawar, on Wednesday, encouraged members of the party’s women’s wing to take to the streets in the event of a situation similar to Manipur’s, without being concerned about potential legal consequences.

While addressing the NCP women’s wing, Pawar expressed dissatisfaction with the inadequate execution of the government’s prior decision to grant women a rightful share of ancestral property.

“We’ve witnessed a distressing instance in Manipur where women were subjected to public humiliation, personal assaults, and even lost their lives. Should anything of this nature occur, the NCP’s women’s wing should be ready to take to the streets. Even if legal actions are taken against you, do not be deterred,” the former Union minister said.
Pawar emphasized that the decision to provide women with a rightful share of ancestral property has not been executed as effectively as it should have been.
“When our party held authority, the 7/12 land documents of farmers would include the names of both sons and daughters. While we successfully implemented this in certain regions, it hasn’t been fully accomplished. We must take up this task and press the government to address it,” he remarked.
Pawar had made this decision during his tenure as the Chief Minister between 1993 and 1995.
Pawar mentioned that during his time as the defence minister, he made the decisive move to provide 11 per cent reservation for women in all three branches of the armed forces, even in the face of resistance from the military.
In a critique directed at the Shiv Sena-BJP-NCP (Ajit Pawar) government, Sharad Pawar expressed concern, noting that during the period from January to May, over 19,000 women were reported missing in the state.
During the monsoon session of the state legislature, Anil Deshmukh, the former home minister of Maharashtra and staunch supporter of Sharad Pawar, raised a question concerning this matter.
Pawar also pointed out that there are government job openings available, but the vacancies are not being adequately filled.
He added, “The government’s intention to recruit a workforce through contracts could potentially deprive eligible underprivileged individuals of employment opportunities that are reserved for them.”
He also criticized the government’s policy of permitting private companies to take over state-run schools.
