Google Photos’ Memories now uses generative AI to curate photo collection – Times of India

Google is doubling down on the Memories features, introducing a new tab to its Photos app to provide a designated space for automatically curated photo collections.

Memories is a timeline of all the photos from the past in one place that resembles a scrapbook. Upon opening Photos on your mobile device, you will immediately see a Memories shortcut in the navigation bar. This feature uses AI to generate Memories that only show content you are likely interested in.
Memories carousels will not showcase duplicate images but instead will highlight people or events you’ve captured during a particular time frame. You can hide particular individuals or time frames to meet your needs better or even turn off the function altogether. One can save AI-generated Memories and any Memories they have made in the Memories view. There is also an option to remove particular photographs and videos from Memories.

Additionally, the company is introducing advanced AI titling features to assist users in naming their photo collections.
Usually, the Memories are named based on the location from the images’ GPS metadata. However, now users can personalise titles by using generative AI. With the “help me title” button, the AI analyses the image contents and generates a title that best fits the memory. Then, users can change the title by providing a “hint” that prompts the AI to adjust the title.
Starting today, the Memories view will be available for users in the US and worldwide within the next few months.
Google Photos now offers improved sharing options with new collaboration features. Users can now invite others to contribute content to Memories, which can be added to their personal Memories view. Google plans to include video export options for Memories, making it simple to share them across various messaging and social media platforms.
