MUMBAI/THANE/NAVI MUMBAI: The city police have geared up for Thursday’s Ganeshotsav bandobast. Nearly 20,000 police personnel will be deployed across the city, including eight additional police commissioners, 25 deputy police commissioners, 45 assistant police commissioners, 2,866 officers and 16,250 constables. A total of 35 platoons of State Reserve Police force (SRPF), Rapid Action Force (RAF), Quick Response Team commandos and home guards will also be on duty. Mumbai Police has set up temporary control rooms to monitor the crowds at the various immersion spots, including Girgaum Chowpatty, Dadar Chowpatty, Juhu Chowpatty and Aksa beach, via CCTV cameras. Local police teams will also patrol the areas. For Friday’s Eid-e-Milad processions too, there will be adequate police bandobast. Thane City Police will deploy more than 3,700 personnel across its five zones for idol immersions on Thursday and Eid-e-Milad processions on Friday. Along with the four additional police commissioners, nine deputy police commissioners, 17 assistant police commissioners, 119 inspectors, 274 assistant inspectors, and sub-inspectors will be on the roads. “We will also deploy 2,068 constables, including 557 female constables, at key locations. As many as 700 home guards, three companies of SRPF and two platoons of Riot Control Police will be on bandobast duty,” said a police officer. “We have also trained personnel to blend into the crowd and apprehend anti-social elements and molesters.” In other parts of Thane district, which are under the jurisdiction of Thane Rural Police, Navi Mumbai Police, and Mira-Bhayander Police, around 18,000 personnel will be on bandobast duty. Navi Mumbai DCP (zone-1) Vivek Pansare said, “Around 950 personnel have been deployed in zone 1. They include 650 policemen, one Ri-ot Control Police platoon of 36 cops, one zone-1 striking team of 15 cops, and two teams with 30 personnel from ACP Vashi and Turbhe divisions.” DCP (zone-2) Pankaj Dahane said that 900 personnel will man the roads on Thursday. tnn
