Jewellers across the country are up in arms against the new hallmarking rules that require a unique hallmarking ID or HUID for every piece of jewellery. They say the new system is time consuming and extremely difficult to follow, especially for smaller businessmen. Showroom owners also say that the new system also takes away the freedom of customers to get individual jewellery items modified or to mix and match different items. Jewellers’ associations from across India have formed a National Task Force to put their views across to the government.
