DJ music is ‘haram,’ don’t use it during Eid processions, say clerics | Mumbai News – Times of India

MUMBAI: Calling DJ music, dance and firecrackers at Eid-e-Milad processions “haram” or forbidden, a group of senior clerics has asked Muslims to not use them when they celebrate Prophet Muhammad’s birthday. Though the Prophet’s birthday or Eid-e-Milad is on September 28, the processions will be taken out on September 29 to avoid any trouble as the last day of Ganesh visarjan is also on September 28.
“The holy Prophet’s birthday should be celebrated with decorum and decency and DJ music, dancing and bursting crackers are un-Islamic practices. In fact, this is ‘haram’ or forbidden and Muslims will be committing a sin if they observe the Prophet’s birthday while using these things at the processions,” said Maulana Moin Ashraf Quadri (Moin Mian), senior cleric, preacher and president of All India Sunni Jamitaul Ulema.
The clerics and preachers were invited to Islam Gymkhana at Marine Lines by the ‘Prophet for All’ campaign, which is carrying out several activities as part of the Eid-e-Milad celebrations till September 29. Maulana Shakir Noorie, the president of Sunni Dawat-e-Islami, a worldwide movement of Sunni Muslims, stressed the need to “desist from committing sin or creating nuisance” in the name of celebrating the Prophet’s birthday.
Former minister Arif Naseem Khan, who heads the biggest Eid-e-Milad juloos or processions in the suburbs, said he had already appealed to the participants not to play DJ music. “We have told participants not to use DJs and crackers and everything else which is against Shariat or Islamic laws,” Khan said. Islam Gymkhana president Yusuf Abrahni, who also heads the ‘Prophet for All’ campaign committee, said, “There are a lot of good and charitable works that can be done as part of the Prophet’s birthday celebrations. It is a waste of money and time (to use DJ music or dance) as they only create nuisance and bring no blessings to the community. It must stop.”
