Cr Begins Work On Widening Of Platform No. 1 At Dadar Stn | Mumbai News – Times of India

MUMBAI: Central Railway (CR) has begun work on widening platform number 1 of Dadar station whose current width is proving insufficient to handle large number of passengers who take the slow corridor trains to travel in Kalyan-bound direction.
Dadar’s platform number 1 and 2 are island platforms with trains halting on both sides. While platform number 2 handled Dadar originating and terminating slow trains, platform number 1 was for trains coming from CSMT direction and moving towards Kalyan.
“We have begun the work on widening of the platform and adequate precaution will be taken to ensure safety of the passengers when the work is in progress. A small ritual was performed at the site for the auspicious beginning of the work,” said a senior CR official. All 11 pairs of Dadar slow locals will now operate from Parel. CR has set a target of two months to complete this work. At present, the width of the platform is 7m which will increase to 10.5m after widening. Once the widening work is complete, platform number 2 will cease to exist and there will be no track to handle trains.
CR also plans to undertake renumbering of all the platforms. At present, there are a total of 7 platforms on WR and 7 on CR after eliminating platform number 2. This includes terminal platforms of long distance trains that originate and terminate from CR and WR.
As planned, platform numbers 1 to 7 will remain the same on WR, but platform numbers 1 to 8 on CR will be numbered as starting from 8 to 14. For example, platform number 1 will be renumbered as 8 and so on.
