Car spin after booze bash turns tragic in Mumbai, 2 brothers die | Mumbai News – Times of India

MUMBAI: A late-night liquor party in Ghatkopar followed by a plan to go to Marine Drive for a spin ended in the death of two brothers in a car fire triggered by an accident in Sion at 4am on Monday.
Ajay Waghela (21) and his brother Pravin (18) were in the speeding car with three friends when it spun out of control and rammed into a divider before catching fire after descending the Sion Circle flyover.
The doors and windows got locked and had to be broken open by passers-by who pulled out the driver, Kunal Attar (33), and two others, Harsh Kadam (19) and Ritesh Bhoir (25). The Waghelas could not be saved as the fire had spread by the time the others were pulled out. The last to be taken to Sion Hospital, the siblings were declared dead with 80% to 90% burns. The three who survived are in hospital with serious burn injuries.
According to police, all five friends were drunk, and to avoid nakabandis on the Freeway they decided to take Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Road from Sion.
The Waghelas were residents of Anushakti Nagar in Mankhurd, and Ajay worked for a private catering concern in a navy canteen.
Driver of car lost control after Sion flyover, say cops
Brothers Ajay and Pravin Waghela, out for spin with three friends, were killed after the group’s car caught fire upon hitting a divider in Sion in the early hours of Monday.
“Kunal Attar was driving the i20 at a high speed,” a police official said. “After getting off the Sion Circle flyover, Attar could not control the car and it rammed into the divider. The car was severely damaged and caught fire.”
The police filed an accidental death report. They said they had collected blood samples of the injured.
The police said the five friends were on a Sunday outing. Their drinking session at a bar in Ghatkopar spilled over into the wee hours.
Attar and Ritesh Bhoir were the first to come out of the car. Harsh Kadam was pulled out next by the people outside. The three were taken to Sion Hospital.
Ajay Waghela was in the front seat and right behind him was his younger brother. The fire brigade broke open the door on arrival at the spot and pulled out the brothers.
