BREAKING: Bihar Releases Caste Census, Check Brahmin, ST, SC, OBC Data Here


New Delhi: The Bihar government on Friday revealed the data of the caste based census in the state. The data gives a statistical insight into different religions and castes that live in the state. Most people in Bihar are Hindus (81.99%) and Muslims (17.70%) while there are Christian (0.05%), Sikhs (0.011%), Budhist (0.0851%) and Jains (0.0096%). There are also different groups of people based on their social status and opportunities, the most dominant groups are backward (27%), extremely backward (36%), scheduled caste (19.65%) and scheduled tribe (1.6%).

These groups face more difficulties and discrimination than others. Some groups are unreserved (16%), which means they do not belong to any of the above groups. Some of the most common castes in Bihar are Yadavs (14%), Brahmins (3.6%), Rajputs (3.4%), Kurmis (2.8%), Kushwahas (4.2%), Telis (2.8%) and Bhumihars (2.8%). Musahars are a very poor and marginalized caste, and they make up only 3% of the population.

CM Nitish Kumar Congratulates Team Behind Caste Based Survey

Taking to Twitter, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar contgratulated the entire team behind caste based survey. He said,”Today, on the auspicious occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, the data of caste based census conducted in Bihar has been published. Many congratulations to the entire team engaged in the work of caste based enumeration! The proposal for caste based enumeration was passed unanimously in the Legislature.”

“It was decided with the consent of all the 9 parties of Bihar Assembly that the state government will conduct caste based census from its own resources and its approval was given from the Council of Ministers on 02-06-2022. On this basis, the state government has conducted caste based census from its own resources. Caste based census not only revealed the castes but also gave information about the economic condition of everyone. On this basis, further action will be taken for the development and upliftment of all sections. Soon a meeting of the same 9 parties of Bihar Assembly will be called regarding the caste based census conducted in Bihar and they will be informed about the results of the caste based census,” his tweet further said.

Giriraj Singh Criticises Caste Census

Union Minister Giriraj Singh, criticized the caste-based census. He said that it was done to confuse and mislead the poor people. He also said that the people who have been ruling Bihar for a long time should tell everyone what they have done for the state. He said that they have not done anything good for Bihar.

 

Giriraj said, “They (RJD-JDU alliance) should have given a report card of the work done by Nitish Kumar and Lalu Yadav, but instead they have issued this report of caste survey which will do nothing except for creating an illusion amongst the public.”
