Bmc To Launch Quality Check Drive For Sweets | – Times of India



Mumbai: The BMC has directed its health department officials to launch a special drive to check the quality of sweets and ‘mawa‘ (solidified milk) to ensure that there are no incidents of food poisoning occur due to adulteration in these items.
In a press release issued on Thursday, the BMC said ahead of the festive season, directions have been given to launch a special drive from September 1 to December 31. Health officers and sanitary inspectors have been asked to check the quality of sweets and ‘mawa’ by visiting sweet shops and cold storages, stated the release.
The civic body also asked shops selling sweets and milk-based products to take special care during the festival season to avoid any incidents of food poisoning. It also urged people not to consume sweets if the colour or smell of these items change. PTI

The state Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in Mumbai has obtained 10 food samples from the renowned eatery, Bademiya, and has warned of further action if the samples do not meet quality standards. The FDA team inspected the eatery’s kitchens and found severe infestations of cockroaches, rats, insects, and maggots, as well as operating without licenses. Samples of raw and cooked food were collected for analysis, including paneer, marinated chicken, chilli powder, turmeric powder, and jeera. Bademiya owner Iftiker Sheikh has shut down the kitchens and plans to renovate and thoroughly clean them.
