With 81 medals in their kitty, India have created history by winning the highest ever medal haul ever at Asian Games including 18 gold, 31 silver and 32 bronze medals.

India went past their highest medal haul in the history of the Asian Games on Day 11, bagging 81 medals. In the 2018 edition at Jakarta, India had bagged 70 medals, but the Indian contingent have surpassed that tally with a few days still to go. On Wednesday, October 4, India finished the action at Hangzhou in fourth place in the overall standings with 81 medals in the kitty. The Indian contingent have won 18 gold medals, 31 silver medals and 32 bronze medals, the most by the nation in the history of the Asian Games.

India start off their day with silverware out the gate as the team of Ram Baboo and Manju Rani brought home the Bronze for India in the mixed team 35km race walk final.

Then the duo of Jyothi Surekha Vennam and Ojas Pravin Deotale won gold in the compound mixed team archery event, beating their opponents, 159-158.

In the mixed doubles squash semifinal, Anahat Singh and Abhay Singh lost to Binti Azman and Mohammad Syafiq Bin Mohd Kamal of Malaysia, but they did win the Bronze for India.

Parveen Hooda added another bronze to India’s tally, losing to two-time world champion Lin Yu Ting of Chinese Taipei in the women’s 57kg semifinal.

In the women’s 75 kg Boxing final, Lovlina Borgohain lost to China’s Li Qian in a unanimous 5-0 decision bagging a silver.

Sunil Kumar added another bronze to India’s kitty as he won his semifinal bout against Krygzystan’s wrestler in the men’s 87kg greco-roman event.

Harmilan Bains then clinched her second silver medal at Hangzhou, she had earlier won silver in the women’s 1500m final and repeated the feat in the women’s 800m final as well.

Avinash Sable also picked up his second medal at Hangzhou, having won the gold in the men’s 3000m steeplechase, Sable finished second in the Men’s 5000m event, clocking a time of 13:21.09s to win silver.

The Indian women’s 4×400 relay team added another silver to India’s tally, the quartet of Vithya Ramraj, Aishwarya Mishra, Prachi & Subha Venkatesan finished behind Bahrain to break the Asian Games record clocking a time of 3:27:85.

In the men’s 4×400 relay final, the Indian quartet of Muhammed Anas, Rajesh Ramesh, Amoj Jacob, and Muhammed Ajmal won gold, clocking a time of 3:01.58s.

Finally, in the Javelin throw final it was double glory for India as Neeraj Chopra won gold with his season-best throw of 88.88m, while Kishore Jena grabbed silver with his personal best of 87.54m.
