India won their 15th medal and their fifth silver in the Asian Games 2023 after Sift Kaur Samra, Ashi Chouksey, Manini Kaushik guided their nation to a second-place finish in the women’s 50m Rifle 3P event in Hangzhou.
The shooting team has now won their sixth medal and got closer to their tally of nine medals that they won in Jakarta back in 2018.
India finished with 1764 points, nine points behind top-placed China. The Indian trio racked up 292 and 290 points in kneeling, 297 and 300 points in prone and 292 and 293 points in standing.
The Republic of Korea, comprising Kyerim Lee, Sanghee Lee and Eunseo Lee, won the bronze medal after finishing with 1756 points.
India’s Samra had more reasons to cheer after she finished second in the individual qualification round of the women’s 50m Rifle 3P event. She also set a national record of 594. She was locked on equal points with China’s Xia Siyu, but the latter finished on top on account of having more inner 10s.
Chouksey also made her way through to the individual final after finishing sixth with a total of 590 points. Kaushik had a rough day in the individual round after she ended with 580 points and finished 18th.
In the women’s 25m rapid-fire pistol, India won the gold medal. India’s Esha Singh, Manu Bhaker and Rhythm Sangwan finished with 1759 points, three more than China.
Bhaker also topped the qualification round with 590 points. Esha and Sangwan will also also be a part of the final with 586 and 583 points respectively.
