Asian Games 2023, Rowing: India wins silver in men’s eight, bronze in men’s pair


India continued their fine run in rowing on Sunday as the men’s eight team secured silver while Babu Lal Yadav and Lekh Ram secured the bronze medal in the Men’s Pair event.

Yadav and Ram finished 6.21 seconds behind the eventual winners, Hong Kong China. The Indian duo scored a time of 6:50.41 on Sunday to finish behind Hong Kong China and Uzbekistan.

Earlier, Babu Lal Yadav and Lekh Ram had started their campaign impressively, securing a place in the Repechage round for a chance to compete in the final. Their performance was commendable, finishing in third place and showcasing their prowess.

On Sunday, Uzbekistan had taken an early lead and Hong Kong, China were second behind them. Yadav and Ram were hot on their tails as the three teams took a sizeable lead over the rest of the field.

The lead was exchanged between Hong Kong China and Uzbekistan at the 1500m mark and the former took full charge of the contest.

Result

The men’s eight team was third behind China and Indonesia in the early goings of the contest and finished third at the 500m and 1000m marks. They would then launch an incredible effort to go past Indonesia and give China a run for their money.

India’s onslaught in the final stretch proved to be a little too late as China would regain their composure and seal the win with a difference of 2.84 seconds. India finished with a time of 5:43.01.

Earlier in the day, Arjun Jat Lal and Arvind Singh had won the silver medal in the Men’s Lightweight Double Sculls to open the account in rowing at the Asian Games 2023.
