Borgohain used her height advantage to steer away from her opponent’s attack while also landing some effective counterhooks. The Indian boxer maintained defensive discipline throughout the bout, eventually earning a spot in the gold medal match.

Boxing is a Paris 2024 Olympics qualifier event at the Asian Games 2023. The gold and silver medalists in each of the seven weight divisions in men’s events will be given a quota to Paris 2024. In the women’s categories, four quotas will be available for all categories except 66kg and 75kg, which will have two berths available, as in the men’s.

However, because National Olympic Committees have sole authority over their respective countries’ representation at the Olympic Games, athletes’ participation in the Paris Games is contingent on their NOC selecting them to represent their delegation in Paris 2024.

In Hangzhou, India’s Nikhat Zareen, Preeti Pawar, Parveen Hooda, and Lovlina Borgohain have already secured Paris 2024 quotas.

Meanwhile, Preeti Pawar, 19, lost her 54kg semi-final bout to China’s Chang Yuan, the reigning champion, by unanimous decision. Preeti Pawar, who is competing in her first Asian Games, had already secured a bronze medal and an Olympic quota by reaching the semi-finals.
