Team India will field an archery team comprising 16 members at the 2023 Asian Games. The matches are scheduled to start on October 1 and will be hosted at the Fuyang Yinhu Sports Centre. It will be interesting to see if the archery team can seal podium finishes for India at the mega sporting event. Two major disciplines, including compound and recurve, will be competed for. The archery programme at the Hangzhou Asian Games will hold medals in the men’s and women’s individual, men’s and women’s team, and mixed team sections.
The Indian contingent will feature talents, including Olympian Atanu Das and world champions Aditi Gopichand Swami and Ojas Pravin Deotale. Incheon Games 2014 compound silver medallist Abhishek Verma will also be aiming for a podium finish at the event. Other than these, the Indian participants include relatively young archers. Despite a lack of experience, there is plenty of potential in the squad. They have been in terrific form of late. Aditi Gopichand Swami recently became the youngest archery world champion while Pravin Ojas Deotale became the first Indian man to win individual world championship gold in Germany.
The Indian archery team had bagged two silver medals at the 2018 Jakarta Asian Games. They will surely be looking to improve their tally in Hangzhou this time.
