Ahead Of Maharashtra Assembly Polls, Know Your Constituency Legislator: The List Of 288 MLAs From 2019 – News18

After five years of political ups and downs, Maharashtra is all set for the Assembly elections 2024 for its 288 seats.

In the last state elections in 2019, the Shiv Sena was a united force under Uddhav Thackeray. Also, Ajit Pawar was with his uncle Sharad Pawar.

Despite winning the majority in 2019, the alliance between Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Shiv Sena did not stand after the election results and President’s rule was imposed. In November, Devendra Fadnavis took oath as the CM of the state along with Ajit Pawar, who jumped ship to form the government with the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and was made the deputy CM. However, three days later, on November 26, the duo resigned and Ajit Pawar went back to his uncle Sharad Pawar. Thackeray then formed an alliance with the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and Congress to form government after the floor test on November 28.

In June 2022, in another setback for Thackeray, his party’s Eknath Shinde joined the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) along with a group of his MLAs to form a government with the BJP in the state. Shinde was made the CM and Fadnavis became his deputy. A few months later, Ajit Pawar, once again, split from his uncle with a group of leaders and joined the Mahayuti alliance and was made the deputy CM again.

In 2019, the BJP had won 105 seats, Shiv Sena 56, NCP 54, Congress 44, Bahujan Vikas Aghadi (BVA) 3, All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) 2, Samajwadi Party (SP) 2, CPIM and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena 1 and the rest by smaller parties.

Going into the 2024 elections, Maharashtra has two alliances — the Mahayuti and Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA). The Mahayuti comprises mainly the BJP, Shiv Sena (Shinde), NCP (Ajit Pawar), while the MVA includes Shiv Sena (UBT), Congress and NCP (Sharad Pawar).

In the state, while Western Maharashtra accounts for 70 seats, Vidarbha 62, Marathwada 46, Thane-Konkan 39, Mumbai 36 and North Maharashtra 35.
