A record! 1,600+ ticketless people caught at Mumbai’s Dadar | Mumbai News – Times of India

MUMBAI: In a major crackdown against ticketless travel, Western Railway (WR) conducted a ‘fortress check’ and caught 1,647 unauthorised passengers in a single day at Dadar station alone on Saturday. This is the largest ever netting of ‘without ticket’ passengers in a single day on Indian Railways at any single station in a fortress check.
A fortress check is an operation in which all entry and exit points are manned by ticket-checking staff to ensure higher strike rate in identifying ‘without-ticket’ travellers.
WR has launched ‘Mera ticket, Mera Imaan’ drive to weed out unauthorised passengers. As a part of this initiative, a drive was launched at Dadar under the guidance of divisional railway manager Neeraj Verma on Saturday.
A senior official said, “Like a tsunami, 195 ticket-checking staff descended on Dadar station in the morning of September 30. The intensive check went on during the entire day.”
Nos. netted at Dadar twice daily average on WR stretch
About WR’s special fortress check at Dadar on Saturday, a senior official said, “It sent shockwaves among ticketless travellers, so much so that even the M-indicator suburban app was buzzing with alerts for commuters to buy tickets at Dadar, else there was big trouble waiting for them.” By end of day, the drive detected 1,647 cases, recovering Rs 4.22 lakh, making it the biggest ‘fortress check’ in the history of Indian Railways.
The magnitude of the action can be seen from the fact that on an average, only 230 cases are detected per day at Dadar on WR. On an average, number of ‘without ticket’ cases on WR’s suburban section is 762 a day on WR’s suburban section from Churchgate to Dahanu. The official said, “Number of people caught at Dadar was almost twice that our ticket-checking staff nab every day…. The intensity of this drive is evident from a video shared by a commuter on social media showing how ticket-checking squad made a ‘wall’ on Dadar main FOB.”
