    In a dramatic turn of events, Palghar Shiv Sena MLA Shriniwas Chintaman Vanga – who was denied a ticket this time – cried profusely and apologised to Shiv Sena (UBT) President and ex-Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, calling him a ‘godly’ person, here on Tuesday.

    Vanga’s unexpected tearful outburst evoked a sharp reaction from Shiv Sena (UBT) MP and Chief Spokesperson Sanjay Raut who slammed ruling MahaYuti Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on the issue.

    “Today, Vanga is weeping… tomorrow even Shinde will cry… It’s all ‘karma’ catching up with them,” observed Raut sharply, without dropping any hints of his party’s likely stance on Vanga.

    Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi said that Vanga was one of the 40 traitors who has now realised his mistake “after he was royally used and thrown by Shinde”.

    Roadshow to Vadodara Aircraft Complex Was Like Rubbing Salt on Maharashtra Wounds: Aaditya Thackeray

    Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aaditya Thackeray on Tuesday said the roadshow by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Pedro Sanchez, President of the Government of Spain, from the Vadodara airport to Tata Aircraft Complex was “like rubbing salt on the wounds of Maharashtra”.

    Addressing a news conference, Thackeray said the Tata-Airbus project was to come up in MIHAN in Nagpur, but was “taken” to adjoining Gujarat by the BJP and the state’s Eknath Shinde government.

    Modi and Sanchez on Monday inaugurated the Tata Aircraft Complex in Vadodara, a facility which marks India’s first private venture dedicated to the production of military aircraft, specifically the Airbus C295. The inauguration was preceded by a 2.5-km-long roadshow by the two leaders from the airport to the sprawling complex in the Gujarat city.

    With the nomination deadline for the Maharashtra assembly elections now closed, it emerges that the BJP and Congress have dropped the maximum number of sitting MLAs among the major political parties.

    Three senior Congress leaders from Pune, including a former mayor and an ex-corporator, have entered the electoral fray as Independent candidates after failing to make it on the list of Maha Vikas Aghadi nominees for the November 20 assembly elections.

    Nawab Malik Files Papers as NCP Candidate for Assembly Polls

    Former Maharashtra minister Nawab Malik on Tuesday filed his nomination papers as NCP candidate from Mankhurd-Shivaji Nagar assembly constituency in Mumbai.

    The development came days after city BJP president Ashish Shelar said his party is against Malik’s candidature for the November 20 Maharashtra assembly election.

    “We will not accept giving a ticket to someone linked to underworld don Dawood Ibrahim,” Shelar had said. “We won’t support Nawab Malik and will have a different stand,” he had added.

    “I had decided to contest as an independent if I did not get AB form from my party. I filed papers at 2.55 pm as NCP candidate,” Malik said after filing his papers.

    Tuesday was the last day of filing nominations for the assembly elections.

    Maharashtra Assembly Polls: Four Members of Ex-minister Kshirsagar’s Family in Fray from Beed

    The Beed assembly seat, once a stronghold of the NCP (undivided), is witnessing fierce competition in the upcoming elections, with four members of former minister Jaydatta Kshirsagar’s family entering the fray.

    The seat had been won four times, split between the undivided NCP and Congress, Shiv Sena, alongside victories by the Communist Party of India and the Janata Party.

    Four members of the Kshirsagar family in the fray include the Kshirsagar senior, his two nephews- Sandeep and Yogesh, and Sandeep’s wife Neha.

    In the 2019 assembly polls, NCP (undivided) candidate Sandeep Kshirsagar narrowly defeated his uncle, Jaydatta Kshirsagar, who contested as a Shiv Sena (undivided) nominee, by 1,984 votes.

    This election cycle sees Jaydatta contesting as an independent candidate, while Sandeep, the last MLA loyal to Sharad Pawar during the NCP split, is running under the NCP (SP) banner. His wife, Neha Kshirsagar, is also in the race as an independent.

    Additionally, Yogesh Kshirsagar, another nephew of Jaydatta, has entered the contest after initially filing as an Independent. On Monday night, the NCP led by Ajit Pawar officially announced his candidature for the Beed seat.

    CEC Kumar Asks Maharashtra DGP to Clamp Down on Politically Motivated Crimes Ahead of Polls

    Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Rajiv Kumar on Tuesday expressed concerns over politically motivated crimes in Maharashtra and asked its police chief to ensure a strict clampdown on crimes that vitiate the electoral atmosphere, sources said.

    The poll watchdog held a review meeting with the chief secretaries, police chiefs and other top officials of Maharashtra, Jharkhand and their neighbouring states to assess the law-and-order situation for the assembly elections.

    During the review, CEC Kumar expressed concerns over politically motivated crimes in Maharashtra and asked the state’s director general of police to ensure a strict clampdown on such crimes, the sources said.

    The recent killing of NCP leader Baba Siddique in the state has created a political furore.

    BJP spokesperson Shaina NC has resigned from her party and filed nomination as the candidate of Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena from the Mumbadevi assembly constituency in Mumbai on Tuesday.

    Before submitting her nomination papers, Shaina visited the temple of Mumbai’s patron goddess Mumbadevi to seek blessings for her campaign for the November 20 elections.

    Shaina will square off against Congress’ Amin Patel from Mumbadevi, which is a part of Mumbai South Lok Sabha constituency.

    “I filed my nomination papers from the Mumbadevi seat. I have resigned from the BJP and joined the Shiv Sena,” she told PTI.
