Maharashtra govt hikes Shah Rukh Khan’s security to Y+ after death threats | Mumbai News – Times of India

MUMBAI: The Maharashtra government has upgraded the security cover of actor Shah Rukh Khan to Y-plus category, citing “probable threats” to him.
According to sources, Mumbai police have received intel that Shah Rukh has received death threats from certain disgruntled elements following the successful release of his movies Pathan and Jawan.
Y-plus security of six personal security officers (PSOs) in three shifts 24×7 and five armed guards at their residence is provided to people who are perceived to have a high threat risk.
Besides Shah Rukh, actor Salman Khan enjoys Y-plus security in Bollywood following the threats from the Lawrence Bishnoi gang.
Amitabh Bachchan, Aamir Khan, Akshay Kumar and Anupam Kher have X security cover which entitles them to three PSOs in 3 shifts 24×7. Shah Rukh previously had only two police constables for his security.
SRK will have to pay for enhanced security
Actor Shah Rukh Khan’s security has been upgraded to Y-plus category. Shah Rukh previously had only two police constables, but now he will have six personal security officer in three shifts round the clock and five armed guards at his residence. (see graphic) TOI has a copy of the letter, dated October 5, issued by the state home department to senior police officers and departments, including the Anti-Terrorism Squad, which stated:“In view of the recent imminent and probable threat to actor Shah Rukh Khan, all unit commanders are requested to provide Y + with an escort scale of security on payment basis with immediate effect, till next high level committee recommendation and review committee decision, during his visit/engagements and stay in your jurisdiction to avoid any untoward incident.”
A top police officer, on condition of anonymity, said the security upgrade for Shah Rukh has been done by the government as the officials of the review committee, which annually reviews the threat perception to celebrities and provides police protection accordingly, have been busy with monitoring the law-and-order situation during the festival season.
As per the Maharashtra government’s revised police protection policy in 2017, security is provided to those private citizens who have a real threat to life. These private protectees, including celebrities, have to pay a fee in advance or deposit a bank guarantee for protection from Mumbai Police. Sources said till the review committee takes a call on Shah Rukh’s protection, he will have to pay for the police security.
