NAVI MUMBAI: A 16-year-old student of Wilson College, was grievously injured a t Vashi sector 17 after being hit by a rashly driven car earlier this week. Arham Gandhi has been admitted at MGM hospital in Vashi. The police has booked the 19-year-old accused driver. No arrest has been made. The a ccused has been summoned to appear before the court at a later date.
“The accident occurred at 10.45 pm on October 1, when my son was crossing the road in the inner Vashi lane (opposite Belgian Waffles shop). The accused car driver came towards Arham at a high speed, thereby causing multiple fractures, including in the temporal region of the forehead. While the car’s number plate details were n oted by Arham’s friends, the accused driver did not help the injured boy .” said the victim’s father, Devang Gandhi.
“The doctors at MGM have told us that Arham has got internal head injuries, but currently he is conscious and able to talk. Howe ver, the doctors said that if there is any further fluid leak into the brain, then it can become a serious issue. We will oppose the bail application of the accused driver, since he should not have been driving at such a high speed in the narrow inner lane of Vashi.” the father added.
The investigating officer of the case, PSI Krishna Kute, said“We have issued a notice under section 41 of the CrPC to the 19-year-old accused to appear before the court in this matter. I do not remember the name of the accused as I am outside. We did conduct his blood test to check for alcohol level, and it was found to be normal (no alcohol detected).” said
The blood test for alcohol should have been done on the night of the accident since the exact car number was provided to the cops, said the father. The name of the accused has not been provided to the family members of the victim, said the father.
An FIR lodged against the accused driver under IPC sections 279, 337, 338 and section 184 of the Motor Vehicles Act. Gandhi has also demanded the CCTV footage of the accident.
