India continue at fourth spot in the overall medals tally but look like they will set a new record for their best ever haul in the Asian Games.

India has had an eventful day at the Asian Games on October 3, 2023, with a total of 9 medals coming in today. Athletics managed to bring in a total of six medals while the boxing competitors brought in 2 medals and the canoe sprint team won a single medal. Their tally for today includes 2 gold, 2 silver and 5 bronze medals.

The medals keep continuing to pour in with their current haul on course to be India’s best-ever medals tally. The current record for India stands at a total of 70 medals which include, 16 gold, 23 silver and 31 bronze which was at the 2018 Asian Games held in Jakarta, Indonesia.

India is already at 69 medals in their tally and with many more events to go including the likes of Men’s cricket, Men’s javelin throw etc., India could get past their best tally and set a new record at the Asian Games.

Take a look at the medals India managed to secure on October 3, 2023:

Men’s Triple Jump – Praveen Chithravel managed to secure a bronze with a score of 16.93. His competitor and fellow Indian, Abdulla Aboobacker Narangolintevida just missed out as he finished in fourth spot.

Women’s 400m Hurdles – Vithya Ramraj managed to secure a bronze medal with a time of 55.68 with the leader being ahead by just 0.188s.

Women’s 5000m – Parul Chaudhary managed to secure a gold with a time of 15:14:75 making it her second medal at the Asian Games.

Women’s Javelin Throw – Annu Rani managed to clinch gold with a season’s-best score of 62.92. She was followed by Sri Lanka’s Dilhan Hatarabage Lekamge and China’s Huihui Lyu in second and third respectively.

Men’s 800m – Mohammed Afsal Pulikkalakath managed to get a silver with a time of 1:48:43. He was defeated by Saudi Arabia’s Essa Ali S Kzwani who managed to clinch gold with a time of 1:48:05.

Men’s Decathalon 1500m – India’s Tejaswin Shankar managed to get a silver in the decathlon event after he sealed the second position when he got fourth in the final event, 1500m race with a total tally of 7666 making it a new personal best as well as a national record.

Women’s Boxing (50-54kg) – Preeti managed to finish her campaign with a bronze after she was defeated by China’s Yuan Chang with the judges coming to a unanimous decision as Preeti lost 5-0 on points.

Women’s Boxing (66-75kg) – Lovlina Borgohain managed to make her way to the finals thereby securing at least a silver as she defeated Thailand’s Baison Maneekon with a unanimous decision, 5-0 in favour of Lovlina.

Men’s Boxing (+92kg) – Narender Berwal finished his campaign with a bronze after losing out the semi-final bout with a unanimous decision going for the winner Kamshybek Kunkabayev from Kazakhstan 5-0.

Men’s Canoe Double 1000m – The pair of Sunil Singh Salam and Arjun Singh managed to clinch bronze with a time of 3:53:329 making them roughly 10 seconds behind the leaders from Uzbekistan.
