Mumbai Police to deploy more than 19,000 personnel for immersion of Ganesh idols on Anant Chaturdashi | Mumbai News – Times of India

MUMBAI: Mumbai Police are taking extensive measures to ensure security during the upcoming idol immersion processions on Anant Chaturdashi, the final day of the Ganesh festival, falling on September 28. Over 19,000 personnel, including officers, will be deployed to prevent any untoward incidents during these processions. Similar security arrangements will be in place for Eid-e-Milad, which will feature processions on Friday.
In response to an appeal by the police, various Muslim organizations and religious leaders have decided to postpone their Eid-e-Milad processions from Thursday to Friday, considering the coinciding events.

The security personnel on duty will include 16,250 constables, 2,866 officers, 45 Assistant Commissioners of Police, 25 Deputy Commissioners of Police, 8 Additional Commissioners of Police, and other senior officers. Additionally, there will be 35 platoons of the State Reserve Police Force (SRPF), a company of the Rapid Action Force, Quick Response Teams (QRTs), and Home Guards stationed at key locations throughout the city.
A police official stated, “Given that a significant number of Mumbaikars participate in the Ganpati idol immersion processions on Anant Chaturdashi, the Mumbai Police are well-prepared with personnel deployment to ensure a safe and incident-free event.”
Traffic Police will play a crucial role in managing traffic flow during the processions to prevent congestion.
Ganesh idols will be immersed at around 73 different locations, including Girgaon, Dadar, Juhu, Marve, and Aksa beaches, on Anant Chaturdashi.
The Mumbai municipal body has also made preparations to facilitate the immersion processions.
To ensure the security of the events, all processions will be closely monitored via CCTV cameras, and plainclothes policemen will be present in the crowds to maintain law and order.
Separate control rooms will be established to oversee the immersion processions and respond promptly to any emerging situations, the official added.
