Mumbai: Sena veteran Sudhir More kills self, woman lawyer booked for abetment | Mumbai News – Times of India

MUMBAI: Sudhir More, 62, a veteran Shiv Sena (UBT) worker and former corporator, died by suicide jumping before a running train at Ghatkopar late on Thursday.
Based on his son’s statement, Kurla GRP on Friday registered a case of abetment against a woman close to him. Samar told the police that his father, a widower, was mentally strong but the woman, a lawyer, was hounding him and forced him to take the drastic step. She is associated with a statutory body set up by the state.
On Friday, shops and establishments in Vikhroli Parksite downed shutters as more than 500 people gathered to show their support during More’s final journey. Sena leaders Vinayak Raut, Adesh Bandekar and BJP’s Pravin Chheda made an appearance. More was also the Ratnagiri district chief of communications in the Sena (UBT).
More lived in Vikhroli Parksite in a joint family. Samar, who is an interior designer, has a sister. More’s sister-in-law, Snehal, told TOI that he returned home from a meeting on Thursday night and had dinner. “Everyone went off to bed. We have no idea when he left,” she said.
More took an autorickshaw to Ghatkopar station. CCTVs at the station captured him entering from the West side and taking an FOB to platform 2. He walked to the end of the platform and got down on the tracks. Cameras on the platform have captured a CSMT-bound slow train approaching at 11.02pm and slamming the brakes about 100 to 200m from the platform.
More, whose body was mangled from below the waist, was carrying two cellphones that were examined to ascertain his identity. The phones have been sent for forensic analysis. In CCTV, More is seen talking on the phone. The police will examine his call data records to find out who the last caller was.
A case under section 306 of IPC was registered against the woman late on Friday. The police said More was acquainted with her for seven to eight years.
Samar told the police he first heard of her in June 2023 when More was hospitalised for a back-related surgery. She was calling on More’s cellphone and Samar had answered the call.
Locals from Vikhroli Parksite recollected More had worked in the area for decades. He was an active part of the sarvajanik Ganeshotsav. He faced criminal cases, including one of murder, sources said. Raut said More was a sincere and loyal party worker and his death was a major loss for the party.
