Bipasha Basu opens up on her daughter Devi’s heart condition; says she was born with two holes in her heart – Times of India

Actor Bipasha Basu has revealed her daughter’s heart condition. In an Instagram live with Neha Dhupia, the actor revealed that her daughter Devi Basu Singh Grover was diagnosed with VSD (ventricular septal defect) when she was three months old.

“Our journey has been very different from any normal mother-father, it has been a lot tougher than the smile that I have on my face right now.

I would not wish this to happen to any mother. For a new mother, when you get to know that…I got to know on the third day of my having a baby that our baby is born with two holes in her heart. I thought I’ll not share this, but I’m sharing this because I feel that there are a lot of mothers, who helped me in this journey, and it was very difficult to find those mothers…,” she has revealed.
She told Neha that she did not sleep for 40 days and 40 nights. “I am not lying. I swear on God,” she said.
Bipasha also said that her daughter is doing fine now.

What is ventricular septal defect?

The ventricular septal defect is a congenital heart defect in which there is a hole in the septum or the wall that separates the ventricles or the lower chambers of the heart. The wall is medically referred to as ventricular septum, hence the name ventricular septal defect. It happens during pregnancy when one of the walls does not develop fully.
“In babies with a ventricular septal defect, blood often flows from the left ventricle through the ventricular septal defect to the right ventricle and into the lungs. This extra blood being pumped into the lungs forces the heart and lungs to work harder. Over time, if not repaired, this defect can increase the risk for other complications, including heart failure, high blood pressure in the lungs (called pulmonary hypertension), irregular heart rhythms (called arrhythmia), or stroke,” the US CDC explains how this condition affects the normal functioning of the heart.

There are different types of ventricular septum disorder: Conoventricular Ventricular Septal Defect in which there is a hole below the pulmonary and aortic valves, Perimembranous Ventricular Septal Defect in which there is a hole in the upper section of the ventricular septum, Inlet Ventricular Septal Defect in which a hole where the blood enters the ventricles and Muscular Ventricular Septal Defect which is the most common type of ventricular septal defect.
While there is no clear cause for why this happens in certain kids, health experts say it can be due to genetic and environmental factors.
Parents should be careful about a few symptoms of the disease like poor eating,n physical growth, breathlessness, fatigue, and heart murmur. Whenever you these signs, do not delay visiting a doctor.
