17-year-old knifes coaching class ex-teacher, walks into police stn | Mumbai News – Times of India

MUMBAI: A teenager allegedly stabbed his former teacher of a private coaching class in broad daylight at Mira Road on Thursday and later surrendered to the police. The teacher, Raju Thakur (26), has sustained grievous injuries to the abdomen and is undergoing treatment in hospital. The teacher and the former student had had a showdown a few days ago.

The incident has been captured on the closed circuit television camera of Gujarati chawl in Penkarpada in Kashimira around 1.30 pm.
Thakur, who runs a coaching class for students up to class 12 in the same locality, was chatting with a few youngsters when the 17-year-old boy came charging towards him and started assaulting him with a knife. The others who were around him at the spot tried to intervene. CCTV footage showed that Thakur, who was caught unawares, tried to resist the attack but the teenager pinned him down and stabbed him on the abdomen.

The teenager left the spot as onlookers got busy in taking Thakur to hospital. Locals informed the police who reached the spot. The teenager later walked into Kashimira police station at Mira Road and confessed to the crime, the police said.
The teenager, who resides in the same locality, had enrolled in Thakur’s coaching class last year when he was in class 12. The police said the teacher is believed to have reprimanded the boy for not focusing on studies. The teacher had apparently pulled the boy up for his proximity with some girl students attending the coaching class. The police are also investigating whether the teacher had beaten up the teenager in class. A few weeks ago, Thakur and the teenager got into an argument over his studies.
The police have seized the knife used to assault the teacher. They are ascertaining where he had procured it from. The police are also examining CCTV footage of the past few days to ascertain if the teen had been keeping an eye on Thakur’s movements. The teenager’s parents are being questioned to know the exact reason for the assault.
The police said that Thakur’s statement would be recorded and the teenager is also being questioned in the presence of his parents and charges are still to be framed against him.
