16-year-old boy assaulted at Mumbai railway station after being found with alleged kidnapped girl | Mumbai News – Times of India

MUMBAI: A 16-year-old boy, accompanied by a girl (17), was allegedly assaulted by a group of individuals amidst chants of ‘Jai Shri Ram’ at the Bandra railway terminus in Mumbai.

The incident, which took place on July 21, gained public attention after its depiction in a widely circulated video on social media this Tuesday. So far, no charges have been formally filed pertaining to the attack, the police told news agency PTI on Wednesday.
Both the adolescent boy and the girl, who resides in Ambarnath within the neighboring Thane district, were caught in this occurrence.

According to the police, “On July 21, a group confronted the Muslim boy and the Hindu girl. Earlier, the girl’s family had lodged a complaint alleging her abduction in Ambarnath. Upon learning that the two youths were present at the Bandra railway terminus, approximately twelve individuals arrived at the scene, subjecting the boy to physical violence accompanied by the chanting of “Jai Shri Ram”.”
During the physical altercation, the boy was dragged out of the railway station by pulling his hair, a police officer said.
Another officer disclosed, “’An individual at the scene managed to record the incident using a mobile phone camera, subsequently causing the video to circulate widely on Tuesday. This prompted both local police and the Government Railway Police (GRP) to take action and initiate an investigation”.
Following the assault, the group took the young man to the Nirmal Nagar police station in Bandra East. However, considering the girl’s kidnapping case had been registered in Ambarnath, he was subsequently handed over to the local police there.
A representative from the Nirmal Nagar police station said that since the assault took place within the railway station premises, the GRP was alerted and requested to conduct an investigation.
“We have made a station diary entry in connection with the incident,” he said.
An official of the GRP’s Bandra unit said, “We have identified the assaulted boy and contacted his family members. We have asked them to lodge a formal complaint with us against those who attacked him so that we can register a case and initiate a probe.”
The people who assaulted the boy can be clearly seen in the video, he said.
