10 Star Tortoises Seized From Crawford Market | Mumbai News – Times of India



Mumbai: Forest department officials seized 10 rare star tortoises from Crawford market and arrested one person on Monday.
Acting on a tip-off, the forest department’s Thane unit under the Mumbai range, detained the accused while he was trying to sell the reptiles, an official said. The tortoises were taken to a Thane facility for medical examination and later handed over to the Resqink Association for Wildlife Welfare (RAWW) for further care and rehabilitation, added the official. NGT notice to forest officials for not filing action taken report
The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has issued notices to the divisional forest officer and principal chief conservator of forests in Shimla for failing to submit an action taken report on the uncontrolled movement of horses in Kufri. The NGT had formed a committee in July to address the issue, but no action has been taken so far. The tribunal has scheduled the matter for further hearing on December 20. Man arrested from Mumbai for attacking woman in Thane
A 27-year-old man was arrested in Kalyan, Maharashtra for entering a woman’s house through a window and stabbing her. The incident occurred when the woman was alone at home while her husband was at work. The attacker covered his face and fled after the assault. The woman was admitted to a hospital and is currently undergoing treatment. The police arrested the accused in Mumbai based on a complaint filed by the woman’s husband.
Sheesham logs seized by forest dept
Forest department officials in Margao intercepted a vehicle near a sawmill at Assolda, Quepem, following information about the illegal transportation of sheesham wood. The driver and another person fled upon seeing the officials, leaving behind two logs of sheesham wood and the car used for transportation. The forest department has seized the logs and the vehicle, and further investigation will be carried out.
